Chapter 42 - Getting Through

Alden started to prepare and cook their dinner when Maine came out of the room. She was able to sleep for more than an hour, which helped her calm down and relaxes her nerves. She approached Alden who was busy slicing some of the ingredients and asked 'Need help?'

Oh, I am all good. Feeling better? - RJ

Yeah, the sleep helped actually. Thank you - Maine

No problem. Wait. Here I made you tea with lemon para mas lalo kang ma relax (placed his hand on her forehead to check if she is running a fever) very good wala na talagang lagnat, pero inom ka last ng paracetamol later para sure tayo ha? - RJ

She just smirked and smiled and said 'Opo. Sure ka you don't need help? Patulungin mo na ako para naman may pakinabang ako dito' 

Ganito na lang, prepare mo na lang yun mga gagamitin mo for the Blueberry Cheesecake habang ililigpit ko na yun ibang gamit dito. Patapos na rin naman ako e. - RJ

Sounds good to me (sips the tea) ummmm salamat dito sa tea, comforting siya - Maine

Always welcome Menggay, always - RJ

They were working quietly when Maine broke the silence by saying 'Thank you rin pala kanina, you were there to listen to me rant and see paano ako magkalat. I was such a mess and you have to witness it.'

Menggay, para naman tayong walang pinagsamahan. We've been through ups and downs. I've seen you through good and bad at ganun ka rin sa akin. Kaya yun kanina that was nothing compared to what we have been through. So wag mo ng isipin, ok lang yun - RJ

Yeah we've been through a lot pero....anong nangyari sa atin RJ? - Maine

And that made Alden stop what he was doing and look at Maine, surprised with her question. He really does not know what to tell her or how to answer her question. 

We grew old, we made decisions that changed everything around us including us. We met new people that became a part of our lives. We made choices that led us to different paths - RJ

Pero hindi naman dapat nawala yun Ikaw at Ako di ba? Because we made sure that whatever happens, it will always be you and me, walang mababago. - Maine

But you met someone and he obviously resents my presence in your life. - RJ

Is that the reason why you stayed away and filed for a leave of absence? - Maine

Yes, it was one of the reasons Menggay and I am sorry - RJ

Why? You could have told me something RJ. You always tell me what's wrong bakit di ka nagsalita? - Maine

Alden was about to answer when his phone rang, he has to get it inside the room. 'Excuse me, I just need to take the call'  After a few minutes, Alden went back to check the adobo he was cooking while Maine is starting the cheesecake already after as she already placed the crushed graham in the cake pan and put it inside the refrigerator.

The adobo is cooked already and the rice is already on its way to be cooked, just a few minutes more and it will be all done. Maine was already doing the finishing touches of the Blueberry Cheesecake when Alden sat across her, still looking at her and hoping that she will forget the last question she threw at him.

Yey! all done! And I just need to chill it inside the ref and it is ready later for dessert later - Maine

Wow! Sarap niyan for sure, na miss ko yan - RJ

Ewan ko sayo, di mo pa sinasagot yun tanong ko - Maine

Can I answer you later after dinner? We'll take a walk outside besides may sasabihin din ako sayo e. Please? - RJ

Maine was looking at him with curiosity, still looking at him she answered 'Fine sige later after dinner'  Alden smiled at her and said 'Thank you'

They both cleaned the kitchen, washed the things they used cooking the adobo, and making the Blueberry Cheesecake, it was already late in the afternoon. They both sat in the living room area to rest as they were so tired. They were silent seating beside each other Maine looked at Alden's face profile as he had his eyes closed. He looked different, she thought, a good kind of different, and in her mind and heart it's saying - I missed you so much. Then suddenly Alden moved and opened his eyes and looked at her as she quickly looked away. He stood up and said 'Ligo muna ako ha para naman di ako amoy adobo. Wag mag likot ha para tuloy tuloy na ang pag galing mo'

Oo na sige maligo ka na, after mo quick shower lang din ako - Maine

Thank you pala sa pag ayos ng gamit ko. Nakita ko sa ibabaw ng kama - RJ

Maine just smiled in response and she was left alone in the living room. Her phone rang and the screen flashed Nanay.

Hello Nay? - Maine

Menggay, kamusta na pakiramdam mo? Magaling ka na ba? - Nanay

Nagtataka 'Alam nyo na nagkasakit ako?' - Maine

Tumawag si RJ, nagtanong kung may nadevelop kang allergy kasi kung di ka pa daw gumaling dadalhin ka sa hospital at baka tanungin siya ng doctor about your allergies sa gamot. Maayos ka na ba ha? - Nanay

Ok na po ako Nay wala ng lagnat, maayos na ang lalamunan ko wag na po kayo mag alala - Maine

Mabuti naman at effective and white flower sa paa mo, tinuro ko kay RJ kung ano gagawin - Nanay

Ah, ganun ba Nay. Salamat po. Wag na po kayo mag alala ayos na po pakiramdam ko - Maine

Ah Menggay, napanood namin ng Tatay ang interview ni Jason, anong announcement o surprise ba yun na sinasabi niya pagdating mo? - Nanay

Naku Nay wala po akong alam, as usual ako na naman ang huling nakaalam, di pa niya ako tinatawagan about it kaya wala pa akong idea. - Maine

Ganun ba? O basta kung ano't ano man yan Menggay gamitin ang ulo ha. Basta kailangan mo kami andito lang kami ni Tatay - Nanay

Opo, Nay. Salamat po. Ingat kayo diyan - Maine

Ikaw rin mag ingat ka. Buti na lang andiyan si RJ naaalagaan ka ng husto. Sige na. Bye - Nanay

After that talk, Maine realizes tama si Nanay mabuti andito si RJ hindi niya alam paano niya makakayanan yun pagsabog niya about sa interview ni Jason. At thankful siya dahil si RJ ang kasama niya ng magkasakit siya. She knows that RJ will not stop until she gets better. Maine's heart is calm.

Meanwhile, while getting his towel and getting ready for his bath, RJ was also having thoughts on what's going to happen later when they get to talk. Will he be able to tell his side of the story if she asks? How will I tell her?

Bahala na nga. Ma, please help me later with Menggay - RJ
