Chapter 13

The feeling of his eyes plastered on the side of my face never lightens up as I sit curled up on the old couch.

The image of his lips on mine never leaving my mind as the fire crackles and pops before me.

As the fire glows shadows dance on the walls. Heat fans over my face as I start to feel another source of warmth wrap around my middle.

His strong arms making me jump at first but quickly relaxing against his strong chest, his chest rising every so often as air travels through his lungs.

His fingers traveling up my arms making a red hot blush spread across my cheeks but thankfully he does not face me.

Then suddenly his fingers stop and the tip of his pointer finger runs over the scar that was inflicted recently.

The jagged lines that rise above my skin.

His sharp intake of breath informs me that he realizes this addition is not old. "What happened." He whisper into my ear making a shiver snake up my spine.

I feel his lips turn up into a smile against my ear. "I ran into a little trouble along the way." Keeping my eyes firmly glued on the bright fire before me as I feel his hot breath fan over my neck.

He leans back on the couch and tightens the hold around my waist. "What kind of trouble."

I sigh. "It's not really that important." He stiffens and I feel his hands ball up into fists.

"There's something you're not telling me Emily." He voice is low and even but I hear the double meaning clear as day.

I stay quite and watch the flames dance within the fireplace. "Emily." His voice has a slight warning to it and it makes me slightly angry.

"Yes." I say clipped and simple as if his tone does not dig deep. "Tell me Emily. Want happened when we separated." I flinch slightly when his words reach my ears because of the pure harshness of them.

"Sorry." He mumbles into my ear, softly and kindly trying to wash away the tone he had just used before.

I stay pretty silent for a while my own thoughts turning around in my head like wheels on a wagon.

The memory of my body hitting the ground and then laying in a pool of my own crimson colored blood. Sticking my arm into the freezing cold river as red streams of blood flow slowly with the rushing water.

"I ran into some trouble while leaving the house." Averting my eyes from the fire I find myself picking at the ends of my nails as Alexs stiff body keeps very still.

The only movement coming from his steady breathing.

"Well... Silver hurts a lot. Let me just tell you." I try chuckle but it only comes out as a weak sigh as Alexs breathing starts to increase.

No sound or words where spoken between either of us before Alexs low voice cut through the stillness like a knife "Emily.." That same warming tone from before slowly leaking into his words.

"Tell me.." His fingers twitch slightly as they rest in the middle of my waist ever so slightly tighten their hold.

I feel the tension in the air grow and settle over the room as I keep my lip firmly closed.

I feel his anger radiate from every pore in his body. "I just ran into a little trouble. Nothing to get your panties in a twist for." I say sharply as I feel his arms stiffen around my waist.
