"Ave's Dream"
Rusted swathers
drowning in Tanzanian sand.
A touch of Saskatchewan
swallowed by the black hair
of Africa.
Bleached blonde by the
sun she hung, 3,500 miles
from Calgary, in a tree.
Wheat, there and gone,
eroded away with soil
and time, falls now in bags
of relief as we say, "Look,
we helped you once before."
Rusted swathers
drowning in the black hair
of Africa.
