"The Forsythia Mirror"
Pruning.
Cutting off unwanted leaves
and twigs.
Unwanted
growths and changes,
unneeded.
Keeping myself
in stasis;
in control;
under control.
And, under the grassy lawn,
roots grow deep.
Thin, pale tendrils
revel in the black
soil of the garden,
invisible
beneath the cement divide,
even as it buckles.
