                I received your Christmas card
    with the grace of foresight.
    The glossy image of stale roses on its front
    and on its back, in smallish print,
                            (Made in London.)
    You bought it to say goodbye.
                "I'm going home," you write.
    "I'm going to be with those I love."
    In the middle of a paragraph where you can hide,
    you tell me you have cancer.
    "I hope this doesn't cause any pity
    'cos I don't want it."
                At the bottom,
    "Happy Christmas.
    Write me soon."
