"in the garden: second impression"

to sing a song, a daffodil

(a peony, a violet kills)

to write a poem, a subtle rose

(a daisy caught in violent throes)

to paint, to paint a blossom'd plum

(shadowed moss, both deaf and dumb)

a garden plot, if it so wills,

grows a murderess in its rows

to bring forth winter, cold and numb.
