Instruction: if you will to arrange 7 ethical principles as to level of importance- having 1 as the most important and 7 as the least important, how it would look like and why?
1. Principle of acceptance 1
2. Principle of communication 3
3. Principle of empathy 4
4. Principle of non judgmental attitude 5
5. Principle of confidentiality 7
6. Principle of individuality 2
7. Principle of non emotional involvement 6
The seven listed principle of counseling are really important and it helps the counselors to work effectively in dealing with their clients, but if I were to list the 7 principles from most important to least important the first principle in my list is the Principle of Acceptance why? because counselor shall respect their clients , it is his/her job to make them feel comfortable and respected through the whole process of the counseling, Counselor should respect the patients physical, psychologically and their social background, they need to feel accepted that's the counselors first goal, to make them feel better. And by that the both of them will build a good foundation of relation and interaction and it will help them to the whole processes of counseling. The second is the principle of individuality , after the counselor accepted the whole persona of his/her patient for me it is important to respect not only his/her patient but also the reason why the patient call for them, and that is the patient's problems and they should be treated uniquely, because people are different from one another , they have different characteristics and background and they should be accepted for who they are. The third in my list is the Principle of Communication , of course it is important to have a good communication for the counselors to understand the client and for the client to understand the counselor as well or vise versa. When we having this kind of job, it is important to understand what we are saying , what we are sharing, for short the whole conversation should be clear and understandable because in the end it would have a big impact on the result of the counseling process. Number four in my list is the Principle of empathy, why? because it is important for counselor to understand his/her patient and it will helps you as well to understand how others are feeling so you can respond appropriately to the situation and to address their problems. The number five for me is Principle of non judgmental attitude, your goal as a counselor is to help them to find a solution to their problems not for you to make them feel bad about themselves, giving them bad comments could affect them and worsen their situation instead of helping them to feel well. The number six in my list is Principle of non emotional involvement of course most of the client/patients problem is worst or maybe emotional and sad, and its important to the counselor to stick to their core, they should not be emotionally affected on the situation because it would affect the capability of the counselor, instead of strengthen their mind it could affect the counselors focus to help their patients. And the last is the Principle of confidentiality , after knowing the background of the patient and his/her problems of course it is important for us to keep the information about them, especially their names and secrets that been told to you as counselor, we should always think that confidentiality is a key element to build and develop trust and it is a crime to use their information in inappropriate ways. This is just my personal opinion but honestly these type of principle could not stand without each other, because all of them are very important element to make the whole process of counseling effective.
