20 | Dangerous

"She's dangerous."

"Someone like her? Rule our kingdom?"

"You should've let her die, your Majesty."

"But she could be useful."

beep. beep. beep.

Pain.

beep. beep. beep.

That's all you feel.

beep. beep. beep.

You try to talk; your throat feels dry. 

"Where's the king?"

Your voice comes out raspy; you don't even know who you're asking. A nurse answers?

Why would there be a nurse here?

"In the room next door," she says, fiddling with machines. You see an IV hooked to your arm. 

You recognize the room from when you had a tour of the palace:

The medical wing.

"What do you mean 'the room next door'?"

Your heart pounds in your ears. The nurse's words echo in your head.

"He's been badly injured. I am not allowed to say anything else."

He's been badly injured.

"How?" You ask, your voice growing stronger.

She ignores you. 

"I asked you a question," you snap, starting to get angry.

beep. beep. beep.

The machine starts beeping faster.

"I-I am not allowed-"

"Tell me!"

beep. beep. beep. beep. beep.

You stand up, determined to find out yourself. If no one can tell you, you'll have to make them.

"Princess! Please!"

You hear the nurse beg, her voice mixed with the cursed beeping.

beep. beep. beep. beep.

Then, you feel a sharp pain in your arm, and the all too-familiar darkness consumes you once again.

"She's highly unstable. Her emotions are going wild, and her actions are unpredictable."

"Be careful, prince, she's dangerous. Wouldn't want you getting hurt too."

Silence, then:

"Princess?"

"Princess Mizuki?"

A hand. A warm, familiar hand.

You open your eyes to see Shoto's face, laced with worry. You try to speak, to apologize, but to no avail.

"Don't worry. We have you on a sedative. You can still hear me and see me, you just can't move or talk. Not until you've calmed down," Shoto says, sadly. "The best thing to do right now is sleep."

"Can we be alone?" Shoto turns to the doctors. They nod and leave the room.

"I'm sorry," he apologizes, "this is all my fault."
