"Y/n?" Ezio called out. "Where are you?"

Ezio waited for any signs of movement before continuing.

"Y/n?" Ezio called out again. "I do not have the patience to play hide-and-go-seek right now. It's late and certainly past your bedtime."

Out of the corner of his eye, Ezio spotted Y/n's h/c hair over a box of crates.

"There you are!" Y/n looked up.

In her arms was a puppy. From head to toe, both the pup and child are covered with mud.

"What have you been up to, Y/n?"

Y/n sheepishly smiled at her father.

"Puppy," said Y/n, holding the pup out to Ezio. "Can keep?"

Ezio sighed.

"No, you can't keep."

"Neee."

"No."

"Neeeee."

"No, Y/n. It's too much responsibility. I can't take care of you and the pup at the same time."

Whining.

"Come on, Y/n. Let go of the pup. It must have a mother and father too."

Y/n pouted and put the pup down. She took Ezio's hand and let him guide her away from the pup.

"Puppy! Puppy!" Y/n chanted, speeding through the streets

"Puppy! Puppy!" Y/n chanted, speeding through the streets.

Behind her were Ezio and Leonardo, keeping her in their sight.

"Come, Ezio. It's rare that Y/n gets to make a friend. Why not let her have that happiness?" Leonardo questioned his friend. "Look at how excited she is!"

"Again, Leonardo. With my life as an assassin, I am unable to provide for both the pup and Y/n," Ezio explained. "Any parent with common sense would choose their child over a mutt."

Leonardo opened his mouth to protest. A cry cut him off.

"Puppy gone!"

Y/n rushed back to Ezio, clinging to the ends of his robes.

"Puppy gone!"

Ezio picked Y/n up, letting her bury her face between the junction of his neck and shoulder. Leonardo peered behind the crates before turning to face Ezio.

"Well, it looks like the pup has been gone for quite some time now."

Ezio sighed.

"I'm sorry, Y/n. It looks like the pup found its family and went back with them," said Ezio. "I'm sure the pup is very happy to be with its family again."

Y/n sniffled as Ezio wiped the tears from her chubby cheeks.

"Let's go home, yeah?"

Y/n didn't protest as he and Leonardo took her back home.

"Buh-bye, puppy."
