Scarlett's POV

I grabbed a satchel from my bedroom and shoved everything I needed inside of it. I walked through into the kitchen with it gripped firmly on my shoulder. The contents were my most prizes possessions; I wasn't willing to lose them at any cost. I shuffled around the kitchen trying to occupy my thoughts and distract myself, I didn't want to get my hopes up, I wasn't highly doubtful it would work. I spent all night researching memory loss and the outcome wasn't very positive. I was flinging cupboard doors open hoping something interesting my pop out of one but nothing did, although it wasn't exactly surprising, it was a kitchen cupboard. My foot was subconsciously tapping along the tiled floor whilst I stared aimlessly at nothing in particular. The only reason I hadn't lost my sanity right then was because the doorbell knocked me out of whatever sort of trance I had let myself slip into. I checked the time on my watch, scowling at it in the process. I sauntered over to the door and cautiously swung it back.

"Hey." Kendall greeted, seeming her chirpy self she had been displaying recently.

"You're early." I commented as I looked down at my watch again, checking to make sure it wasn't broken. It wasn't, it read exactly quarter to two.

"Surprisingly there's no traffic and I just wanted to check you had everything."

"Oh okay, and I managed to find a couple photos."

"Would you mind if I had a look?" She questioned.

"Sure." I replied, I didn't see any harm in it.

I opened my bag up and pulled out a small photo album which only contained pictures of that Christmas time with my sister. I had to make it up myself, unfortunately it didn't come like that. I had to sort through masses of other photos of my family, they were tearing my heart strings apart one photo at the time. The box of tissues I had was now empty, my tears had been soaked up completely but the mental pain and heart ache was still haunting me. I tried being strong, I was as strong as I could but it all got too much. Luckily I fell asleep before I did something I would dearly regret.

"She looked a lot like you, you know."

"Thanks." I mumbled, I didn't really know how else to respond.

"She still does." She commented, her fingers running over a particular photo. I was holding a burnt turkey in my hands whilst Laura was holding a pot of burnt vegetables. We were both covered in flour from our attempt to make pastry for an apple pie but clearly that didn't go down too well. We were laughing as the photo taken and I couldn't help smile looking at it now, it was definitely a day to remember.

"You know her adopted mother probably recognised you."

"Surely she would have let me speak to her though, just a conversation?"

"I told you though, she knows you'd take her away. She most likely recognised you instantly and went into panic mode. Although I don't think your actions helped."

"I know." I sighed, regretting it immensely. "But she can't keep sisters apart, does she know what I went through?"

"Of course, she knows a lot about you. She was told about you when she adopted Laura."

"But I couldn't have been told about them?"

"I don't know what happened there but it doesn't seem right if I'm honest."

"I don't know if I'm more angry or upset about everything." I replied with an amount of harshness invading my voice.

"No point getting angry, it won't solve anything. And we should probably go now. Their book club starts in twenty minutes. If we get to the park first it won't look as suspicious." She replied, leading us both towards the door. I wasn't sure how it would make us look less suspicious but I wasn't about to ask why. Kendall seemed like she knew what she was doing and I was happy to follow her lead at the moment.
