After Dani walked away from the bar I couldn't help but pay attention to where she was on the dance floor. It was so busy but somehow even after all this time I could always find her in a crowd. I continued to wait on customers and pour drinks but I was distracted. I finished pouring a drink when I felt a hand around my wrist. I spun around and came face to face with Ashley. "Come on," she said as she pulled me into the back room.

"Ash we can't it's packed out there," I tried stopping her but she wasn't having it. "No I talked to Vic it's fine, we need to talk."

I really didn't want to get into this tonight at the bar but I could tell by the look in her eyes that I wasn't going to be able to walk away. I still tried though, "Ash please not right now."

She wrapped her arms around my neck and I wrapped my arms around her waist, "Laur, I don't want to talk about it right now either I just want to make sure you are ok. I can see it in your eyes."

I couldn't help but smile a little bit even if I didn't want to, she couldn't even imagine what her presence did to me and how she made me feel. "I'm ok," I said not sure that I even believed it so I know she didn't. She shook her head, "Sure you are. She's an ex?"

I sighed because somehow she was going to get me talking even if I didn't want to, "Ya, I was with her before Vanessa."

"How long were you together?"

I looked up at her trying to decide how much I really wanted to tell her, or how much she really wanted to know. I know that I don't really want to hear about her history. "Five years," I said quietly and she looked surprised.

"So you were serious," she said it at almost a whisper. I nodded, "How serious?" When I looked in her eyes I knew she really didn't want to hear this answer but I knew that if I didn't tell her that it would eat at me and effect whatever it was we were building here.

I looked at her briefly before looking down, I didn't think I could see her reaction to what I was going to say next. "I was going to ask her to marry me," I said it quietly but I knew she heard me because her body tensed in my arms and her arms loosened around my neck.

I felt her take a deep breath but I still couldn't bring myself to look up at her, "Why do I feel like there's still unresolved feelings there? Do you still love her?"

The question kind of threw me. Did I still love her? I knew the answer to that question. No of course I didn't, it had been a lot of years and she broke me in ways I probably never healed from. But I hesitated just long enough that Ashley noticed and before I do anything her arms were no longer around me.

"I guess that's my answer," she said as she started towards the door. I reached out to grab her arm, "Ash, no wait. It's not like that."

She pulled her arm out of my hand. "You're right we shouldn't have had this conversation now," and walked out the door.

"Fuck," I said under my breathe as I stood there wondering what the fuck had just happened. Had I really just implied to a girl that I was falling for that I was still in love with my ex who I hadn't seen in I don't know how many years.

I walked out of the back room and looked down the bar. It was still so busy and Ashley had put a smile on her face as she talked to customers. This smile was different though, it wasn't the one that lit up the room, this was just her doing her job. I wanted to walk over to her and take her away so we could finish the conversation but I knew that this wasn't the time or the place to do that so I figured I would just go back to working. I had only poured one drink when I felt my phone go off in my pocket.

Vic: "Get your ass to your office."

I looked up at the camera that she clearly was staring at me in and raised my hands in a "What do you want?" manner. My phone buzzed again.
