Carl's POV
I guess I feel asleep.
I woke up to a huge pain in my back from being hunched over for so long.
I lifted my head off of Enid's chest and cracked my back, which reduced the pain a little.
I looked at Enid. A little color had returned to her face, which gave me hope.
Holding her hand, I stared out the window.
I was expecting to hallucinate Lydia again, but I didn't.
After about five minutes, a deep inhale caught my attention.
I turned to Enid to see her struggling to open her eyes.
She's alive!
Once she succeeded in opening her eyes, she turned to face me and closed her fingers around my hand.
"Carl?" she asked dazedly.
I breathed a sigh of relief and leaned towards her a little.
"W-what happened?" Enid asked. "Where's Lydia?"
I didn't want to scare her immediately after she woke up.
"I took care of it," I said simply.
She stared at me for a moment then pursed her lips.
"She's dead," she said somberly.
I sighed, knowing I couldn't lie to her, and nodded.
Enid sighed sadly and looked away. She then looked back at me.
"What happened?" she asked.
I recounted the story, picking up right after our fight, ending with me coming in the room and falling asleep.
She sighed and squeezed my hand.
I looked away. "I really thought you were never gonna wake up," I said and looked back at her.
She cracked a smile. "Aw, you doubted me?"
I laughed a little, the tears following after.
"It should be me in that bed," I said shakily, trying my best to stop the tears.
Enid chuckled. "Maybe," she said. "But, hey, you've gotten shot enough. It was my turn."
I smiled, but the smile quickly faded. "I'm such an idiot," I breathed.
Maintaining the same joking manner, she said, "Yes, you are. But hey," she brought her hand up to my face, "that's why I love you."
Smiling through the tears, I breathed, "I love you."
I put my head on her chest once again, her arm coming across my back as I repeated myself.
"I love you."
