Well, Daniel did end up asking me, only 4 days before the dance.

Before I knew it, the day of the Winter Formal had arrived.

The girls and I were all gathered at Jenna's house to prep.

I'd chosen a pinkish beige-white dress that came down mid-thigh. It wasn't too fancy, since the girls had told me everyone usually dressed a bit more on the casual side for the first dance of the year.

( fits are at the end of the chapter )

I was helping Madelyn with her eye makeup when the bell rang.

"They must be early," Jen muttered, checking her eyeliner.

"I'll get it," Anna said, rushing to get the door.

I nervously examined my newly done nails.

Jenna must've noticed because she said, "Don't worry, Melody, you'll be fine. Besides, it's just the first dance of the year."

"Hurry up, you guys," Anna said, peeking in through the door. "They're here already."

Checking my reflection one last time, I followed Anna, Madelyn, and Jenna out the room.

Oliver, Evan, Jake, and Reese were waiting in the living room.

Reese wearing a suit brought back memories from the past year. Some good and some bad.

"You guys ready to go?" Jenna's dad asked.

---

As we all clambered into the school, I heard a voice calling my name.

I turned around to Daniel, who was smiling widely.

"You look really nice," I murmured shyly.

"You too," he replied.

To be honest, it was a bit awkward.

"Let's go in, yeah?"

After Jenna met up with Ben and Maddie with Alex, we all headed inside.

--- ( time skip cause i don't remember what happened ?? ) ---

An hour or so into the dance, I was resting on the bleachers when Oliver approached me.

"Tired?"

I shook my head. "Not really. Just taking a break."

"Where's Daniel?" he questioned, sitting beside me.

I shrugged. "Bathroom, I think."

He was silent for a moment before asking, "Do you even like him?"

I shrugged again. "At one point I thought I might like him, but that feeling kinda faded... maybe I just thought he was cute. I don't know anymore."

Oliver nodded. "Well, on that note-" he extended his hand to me "-would you care to dance with me, fair princess?"

"I'd love to, kind sir," I replied, making both of us cringe.

"Yeah, I won't do that ever again."

"Thank God," I replied, and we both laughed, starting to sing along to Taylor Swift.

"She wears short skirts!"

"I wear T-shirts!" Oliver yelled back.

"She's cheer captain and-"

"I'm on the bleachers!"

Soon, everyone around us was hyped up and we were all eventually screaming.

"HAS BEEN HERE THIS WHOLE TIME!"
