Russia's hand was the only thing holding his head upright, not counting his neck as the large country worked over his study table. His cheek was held against his left hand in a tired way, his right hand writing quickly on a piece of document.

He groaned as he put down the ink pen and had to reach to grab the red stamp, pressing it hard on the right hand corner of the paper. Russia held up the paper in the light, and placed it on the pile of other papers he had finished.

"Блядь..." He muttered to himself, and slouched down further into his chair. The orange afternoon sun glowed steadily through the large window in his study, making him feel even more tired. The pile of paperwork seemed so large, and though he had been laboring through them for days at a time now, it never seem to so much as shrink.

His country along with the rest of the world was facing a terrible time, millions dying as the sickness raged on. Then people were quarantined, stopping all jobs and trade. The amount of paperwork that created was insane. Russia ran a hand over his face, and grudgingly grabbed another paper on taxes from the monstrous pile on his right.

He didn't notice lunch time had long past 4 hours ago, and fatigue and hunger was starting to catch up to him. Russia scribbled down another signature, and filled in a couple of lines, before finally throwing his pen across the table to the corner in frustration.

It clattered noisily, making the big country hiss and growl, feeling so tired and unnaturally hot. The room suddenly felt very stuffy, even though Russia had definitely remembered to open a window. He crossed his arms on the table, resting his head in between them. His ushanka had been abandoned on the table a few arm lengths away, after feeling too hot and sweaty underneath it.

"Just a minute. Then back to work." Russia thought tiredly, and closed his eyes. There was no time to relax, his country needed him. The rest of his body suddenly felt very cold, and he clenched his teeth while goosebumps rose up all over his skin.

He began to nod off, exhaling breathlessly. "Just one minute..." He thought to himself, before fatigue dragged him into the darkness.

Germany walked in to a dark living room, no big boyfriend in sight, and no sound of him either coming down the stairs to greet him. "Russland?" He called, his voice quiet and with an edge of tiredness. The entire office was tense today, no one was in the mood for talking, every countryhuman focused on trying to overcome their situation.

The meetings were all on how they could pool money in to find a cure or vaccine, dreadful and exhausting. Germany had worked all day and only stopping for lunch by America's request. The usual carefree and bubbly country didn't even try to cheer him up with quirky punch lines or smooth talking.

Germany poked his head into the kitchen, the lights were off there as well. He dropped his heavy briefcase stuffed to the brim with papers near the stairway, and quietly padded upstairs in his socks. Where could his boyfriend be? He wanted cuddles and attention and simply sleep the day off.

"Russ? Where are you?" He asked quietly, starting to feel a little bit worried. Had something happened? Russia could take care of himself right? Their bedroom was empty as well, and now Germany was beyond worried. Walking quickly to the brown door that led to Russia's study, he twisted the doorknob forcefully and rushed in.

"Russland!" He breathed a huge sigh of relief, seeing the slumped figure of the larger country on his table amongst a huge pile of paperwork. Germany walked quickly to his side, and saw that he had fallen asleep, his head laying in the cradle of his arms with his mouth slightly open. Germany had to smile a little at the sight of him.

Gently, he brushed a hand over his thick white locks of hair, massaging his scalp. Germany frowned, and touched his exposed cheek and forehead before his eyes widened in shock. He was so hot, unnaturally so and felt clammy with sweat.

"Scheiße-" He whispered under his breath, and carefully nudged Russia's shoulders to get him to wake up. "Russland. Russland can you hear me?" He said softly, leaning close too his ear, shaking him gently and continuing to call his name.

Russia groaned. His head hurt. Someone was shaking his shoulders and making him even more dizzy. "G' away-" He mumbled, but that led to a coughing fit. His throat felt sore, and he could barely breathe through his nose.

"Russland can you hear me? Wake up liebling." A soft, calming voice spoke into his ear, and then a gentle hand parted through his hair, running lightly over his scalp. It took a few seconds for his mind to click and recognize the voice of his boyfriend.

Germany smiled grimly as Russia finally opened his eyes, which looked very tired and glazed over. "Hi." He said softly, giving him a light kiss on his too-warm forehead. Russia hummed in recognition, and slumped against Germany.

"Do you feel okay? Can you stand up?" Germany asked, feeling his forehead again. It definitely was a high fever, and he just hoped that his sudden sickness it wasn't too serious. Countryhumans didn't get viruses, like the current one that was spread around the globe, but they could get illnesses from bacteria like human beings.

"Don't wanna. Tired." Russia mumbled, closing his eyes again.

"Hey-" Germany patted his cheek lightly, stirring him awake. "I know you are. But you have to get to bed, then you can rest okay? Not sitting in your office." He wrapped his arm around Russia's shoulders, trying to get him to stand up. "Come on baby, do it for me?"

"..." Russia groaned and got up slowly, the dim room seemed to spin and shift all around him, but Germany's arm around his shoulder kept him steady. He closed his eyes, slumping against his boyfriend.

Germany let out a 'oof', struggling to keep holding on to his too tall boyfriend. "Russland I can't carry you-" He squeaked, and removed his arm from his shoulder to hook across his back and under his arms instead to support his large frame.

They slowly walked out of the study together step by step, Russia groggy and acting like a cooked noodle which Germany attempted to get him together to just make it to their bedroom down the hall.

He nudged open the door with his hip, half dragging and half leading Russia to the bed, and flicked on the light switch. Russia hissed and bowed down his head. "Too bright. No." He mumbled, his eyes shut tight.

"Okay okay." Germany said gently, sending them back into semi-darkness, the only light being the fading glow of the evening sun.  Russia finally landed on the bed, where he slumped face first into the mattress. Germany had to let out a soft giggle, and helped him to take off his slippers and shift his body into a more comfortable position.

Russia groaned as he turned over and his head shifted by gentle hands to squeeze a comfortably soft and cool pillow underneath. Germany yanked out the duvet from underneath him, and tugged him in snuggly to prevent him from feeling cold.

"Гер..." The sick country slurred softly, looking up at him with tired eyes. "I'm right here Russland." Germany smiled, smoothing back his hair from his sweaty brow. He needed to get some cool towels on his forehead, and get him to drink some water.

"Russland, I going to get some things to help you. You stay awake okay? Don't go to sleep yet." He said gently, rubbing small circles on his warm flushed cheek with his thumb as he gazed into his boyfriend's eyes. Russia hummed and nodded tiredly, tucking his chin into the blanket.

Germany smiled softly and kissed him on the forehead, standing up. "Do you think you can manage some soup?" He asked quickly, since both of them haven't had dinner yet. Russia froze at the thought of food, and nodded quickly to cover up his hesitation, even thought it made his head burst into a new bout of dizziness.

Germany's eyebrows furrowed. "Did you have lunch today?" He said, staring down at his sick boyfriend. Who bit his lip and looked away from his firm glaze. "...no..." He said quietly in a low rasp, hiding his face deeper into the warm comfort of the blanket.

Germany leant back down and cupped his warm cheek, making Russia look him in the eye. "I'd be right back. Remember, no sleeping." He said softly, a gentle smile on his lips as he kissed him again. He couldn't be mad at Russia, he was sick. And more often it was he himself that forgot to eat meals and other basic necessities in favour of working.

He went down the stairs and to the kitchen, quickly grabbing a pack of fever medicine and a thermometer from the cabinet. Germany dropped them on the table and went to hunt for a can of chicken soup that was light enough for a sick, nauseous stomach but full of good nutrient and minerals. He also took a few handkerchiefs and a shallow plastic basin, filling the latter with some ice and water.

Germany tapped his foot impatiently as he waited for the soup to heat up in the microwave, trying to somehow will the flipping soup to hurry up.  He wasn't very hungry, having eaten a decent lunch, but he grabbed a apple anyway to munch on while getting the other things ready.

A few minutes later he had a hot bowl of chicken soup with a spoon, the fever pills and thermometer on a tray carried in one hand, and the basin and cloth in the other hand. He had also grabbed a glass of water on the tray before walking back upstairs with his bounty.

"Liebling?" He called out as he pushed up the bedroom door with his shoulder, careful not to drop anything. Russia blinked dazedly, and smiled weakly at him as he approached. Germany set down the basin and tray on the table of their bedside drawer, grinning back at his boyfriend.

"I'm gonna take good care of you, okay Russ?" He said, sitting down at the edge of the bed right next to Russia, giving his hand a comforting pat underneath the thick blanket.

He picked up the thermometer, and held it out to his boyfriend's mouth. "Say ah." Germany prompted, poking between his lips teasingly with the small blunt metal tip of the device. Russia's face scrunched up, staring down at the absurd object.

"Russ I need to take your temperature-" Germany chided. The sick country grumbled under his breath, and parted his lips open just enough to let Germany slip in the thermometer. Meanwhile, he had dipped one of the handkerchiefs into the cold water, folding it into a rectangular shape.

"Ooh..." Russia purred, a wave of relief flowing through his body as Germany gently placed the cold cloth on his forehead to help combat his fever. "Heh, like that tough guy?" He laughed, and pulled out the thermometer to check.

"Hm. 38°C. Not the worst, but we have to bring it down." Germany murmured, and smiled at Russia, bending over to kiss him on the cheek again.

"Meh," Russia grunted tiredly. "Can I sleep now, Doktor Германия?"

"No. You need to eat." Germany giggled and lightly picked up the bowl of soup from the tray. "Open wide, here comes the aeroplane~"

Russia's nose scrunched up again as the spoonful of pale coloured soup hovered close to his mouth. "I'm not a baby-" He retorted, and suddenly the spoon was in his mouth. Germany laughed as his eyes widen in surprise, and quickly pulled out the spoon out, its contents in his mouth.

"Tasteless." Russia stuck his tongue out in disgust. "That's because your sick, Russland." Germany laughed again, holding out another spoonful for him to swallow down.

" 'm not sick." He grumbled, and opened his mouth to accept the food grudgingly. Germany shrugged, and continued to spoon-feed him slowly, careful not to spill anything.

"How did you even get sick, you haven't left the house since we established quarantine for the humans..." Germany said softly under his breath, keeping a close eye on his boyfriend, observing his fever-flushed cheeks and trembling body shaken with chills.

Russia managed to swallow down one more spoon of the soup, feeling his sore throat start to burn. "Don't want anymore." He mumbled when Germany came again with another spoonful, turning his face away from the food. He was so tired.

The bowl of soup was still half-full, but Germany nodded and send it back down on the tray. He leant back down to cup Russia's face again, feeling the heat still radiating off his skin in hot waves.

"Do you feel okay? Nauseous? Dizzy?" He asked. Russia grunted and shook his head, closing his glazed eyes and exhaling out a long breath, looking as exhausted as he sounded.

Germany peeled away the now warmed handkerchief from his forehead, and switched it for a new cold one. "Come on baby. One more thing then you can sleep." He said softly, swiping the pack of fever medicine off the table and popping out two of the white round pills from their aluminium packaging.

Russia hissed softly as he saw the pills. He hated them, never been very exposed to them as a child (since his father always said home-made remedies like raw onions were always more effective-) and so was not used to swallowing those nasty things down.

"Can I sit up-" He mumbled, weakly trying to push himself up into a sitting position. Germany held on to his shoulders and helped him sit up slowly, and adjusting the pillow to allow him to lean back.  The big country groaned, clutching his head and wheezing harshly.

Germany rubbed his back in comforting circles, a concerned frown etched into his face as he looked at the usual strong country so weak and sick. He nudged his nose into the crook of Russia's neck, pressing close to him for reassurance. "It's okay, I'm here. You're going to be fine, mein liebling."

Russia took a deep breath, the heavy drumming in his head subsiding into a dull ache. He plucked the two pills from Germany's hand with his fingers, and after a few moment's hesitation tossed them into his mouth. Germany handed him the glass of water and helped him take a few long sips.

"Good job." He cooed softly as Russia let go of the glass and groaned, his head falling back almost dramatically. "Ughh... I hate it-" He grumbled, closing his eyes again and pulling the bed covers close around him, shivering slightly.

Germany smiled and gathered up all their things, moving to stand up and take them back to the kitchen while letting him sleep. "...Noo wait-" A tired voice called out to him, and then a weak hand clasped over his wrist. Russia stared at him with blurry eyes, fighting to stay awake.

"Go to sleep, Russ. I'll come back later I promise." Germany said gently.

"Nooo 'm cold." He murmured, tugging at his wrist feebly. Germany huffed light-heartedly, and set the tray aside for now. "I'll go get you another blanket, okay?"

"Don't wan' it. Just want you." Russia slurred, the effects of the fever pills making him even drowsier than before. He tugged at Germany's wrist again, trying to get him to lay down with him.

Germany stared down at his pleading face, and couldn't resist for even just a few seconds. He finally sighed, and tugged off his socks and tie. Russia made a rough noise of joy and pulled away the duvet, pulling him down under the warm covers beside him.

Germany reached up a few more times to refresh Russia's cold handkerchief again, tossing the previous one into the cool water. Russia sighed in contentment and cuddled close to him, wrapping his legs and arms around him like a big buff koala. Normally Germany had what he would call a low body temperature, but now because of his sickness, his body felt wonderfully warm.

"Hm..." The smaller country sighed, smoothing back his boyfriend's white hair from his sweaty forehead, being careful around the cold compress. Russia purred in delight and rested his head against Germany's chest, feeling the rhythmic beats of his heart pump warm blood all over his body.

"How was work today?" Russia rasped softly, keeping his eyes closed but still trying to stay awake for a few more minutes. Germany looked down, continuing to stroke his hair soothingly.

"It was okay. Really tiring." He answered, scooting further down into the warmth of the covers and relaxing into the pillows, feeling his own tiredness catching up to him. He stifled a yawn, making Russia chuckle weakly and press a light kiss on his chest. "What did you do all day?" Germany asked.

"Taxes." Russia said simply, yawning halfway as well. He reached up an arm to pluck Germany's glasses off the bridge of his nose, clumsily putting them on the bedside table with the rest of the things.

He dropped his arm back around Germany's midsection, smoothing over the lean muscles that lay under his skin with his fingers in a comforting way that always made the small country melt into a relaxed puddle of softness. "You go to sleep too." He whispered, snuggling as close as he possibly could to absorb all the warmth coming off him.

Germany gasped softly as smooth long fingers pressed into his abdomen, gentle and yet firmly reassuring. He felt his mind slowly ebb into the darkness of unconsciousness as his boyfriend's hand creeped under his shirt and press directly against his body.

He knew that he technically should stay awake and look after his 'patient', but he was so tired and all he did want to do after getting home from work was cuddle and sleep, so who was he to complain.

Wrapping an arm around Russia to reassure himself that he was safe, Germany slowly let his mind go into the darkness. The last thing he heard was Russia's breathing slow down and relax as he fell into a deep medicine induced sleep against him.
