AUBREY

I knew he was lying.

I woke up few hours ago, thinking I'd find myself in the hands of that bastard, Carlos. But here I am, in Drexel's house, staring at the blank TV screen.

When I woke up, Drexel told me that the black Mafias dropped me off earlier today, but that sounded really lame; I mean, why did Carlos kidnap me if he was just going to drop my sleeping body at Drexel's front door, why didn't he kill me?

I also knew it was a lie because I just heard the news, the club I went to earlier, was said to have been burnt down to the ground, same was the black Mafias estate.

Somehow, I knew it was connected to my release.

My mind kept going to Tyler.

Was he involved in this? Did he set me free? Does he care about me after all?.... Most of all.  Is he okay?

I raked my hands through my hair.

"You okay?" Drexel's voice came up from behind me.

"I'm not- I just watched the news Drex, the Territory of the Black Mafias has been burned to the ground, no survivors... Isn't that weird, seeing as I was there few hours ago."

Drexel swallowed. "Burnt to the ground?"

"Yeah."

Drexel's brows furrowed a little, it was apparent that he was in deep thoughts, but when he noticed me staring, he shrugged it off. "That is not our concern Aubrey, the most important thing is that you're safe. I think we should drink to that. You look like you need a drink." He said, moving to his fridge.

"How are you not finding this strange?" I gave him a quizzical look.

"I am, I'm finding it strange but I'm choosing not to let it bother me, I think you should do the same." He simply said, avoiding my eyes.

He knew something.

"Drex, why are you lying to me?" I asked him.

He turned to look at me with wide eyes.

"I'm not lying to you- why would you think I am? Like I told you, I came out this morning, I wanted to report to the police but then I saw you sprawled Infront of the house, I took you in and viola! We're sitting down here talking about it. There's nothing more to that." He said.

"But-" I stopped when my phone vibrated.

I picked it up to see that it was a text from Jullie, Tyler's sister.

It was actually about the function I got invited to, she sent me the address to the Bresfort Mansion, Time, and dress code, turns out today was the function and I promised Alicia that I would attend it.

I stood up. "We'll continue this later Drex, I have somewhere to go."

He raised his brow. "Where?"

"The Bresfort Mansion."

____________

I parked my car at a free parking space Infront of the hall, I could see people going in and out, the women wore their lovely red dresses and they looked beautiful.

I was also wearing a red dress, it was actually the dress code.

Well, I came here for two reasons, one was simply because I wanted to honor Alice's invitation and the second reason was that I was dying to see Tyler, I knew that seeing him here was going to be a long shot, but something in me hoped that I would see him.

Something in me hoped that he was responsible for my freedom, something in me hoped that we could resolve this misunderstanding between us.

I knew I was stupid for thinking these things because Tyler made it clear that he doesn't want anything to do with me, but I knew deep down that he didn't mean it, I just miss him so much.

I finally got down from the car, adjusting my knee length A shaped red gown, I straightened my hair today and styled it in a straight center parting, the two sides fell straight on each side of my face.

I made my way to the hall, my red heels making attractive sounds beneath me.

Entering into the hall, I saw so many women wearing red beautiful gowns, the men just wore their Normal black suits coupled with sleek red ties.

"Aubrey?" A very familiar voice called.

I turned around to find a very beautiful Alice who caught me by surprise with a motherly hug, making me miss my mom.

When we broke apart, she smiled. "I'm so glad you could make it."

"I wouldn't miss it for the world. I'm a little bit late though, hope you're not offended-"

She tapped my arm lightly. "Offended? You're practically part of our family now."

Wow, that's new. I only gave her a tight smile. "You look stunning Alice." I complimented.

"So do you-"

"Aubrey!"

I turned to find Jullie walking up to me with a wide grin on her beautiful face, she gave me a full hug and pulled away gently. "You came! Oh my gosh, I love your dress!" She squealed.

I gave her a bright smile. "You don't look too bad yourself."

She smiled too. "I'm so glad you came, it's so nice to see you again." Jullie beamed.

"The feeling is mutual... I've actually been looking forward to this day." I said truthfully.

"Really? Me too! Tyler's such a dick head, he didn't bother to bring you over anymore." Jullie said.

At the mention of Tyler's name, I felt my smile beginning to flicker.

"Leave Tyler alone, as I said, he's stupid and all he cares about now is that stupid parcel," Alice added.

I wondered if they knew about my betrayal. If they did, would they still talk to me? Will they still like me?

"Are you okay Aubrey, your mood seem to have deflated." Alice looked at me with concern.

Immediately, I put up my best smile. "I'm fine... It's just- um- is Tyler coming?" I had to ask.

Jullie shrugged.

"He may, he may not- I called him earlier, he told me he was busy," Alice said. "I don't think he'll be coming."

The hope I had earlier was automatically quenched.

"Is Max here?" I found myself asking.

"Yes, but he's up in Tyler's old bedroom..."

"I'd like to speak to him," I said.

"Sure," Jullie scrambled out the directions to me and with an exchange of several smiles, I soon found myself Infront of Tyler's old bedroom...

I gave a slight knock.

Soon after, the door opened..  revealing a younger version of Tyler, he had earplugs to his ears but he took them off when he saw me. For a moment, I thought he was going to shut the door at my face, but he opened it wider for me to come in.

"Hey," I said when he shut the door and Sat on the ground Infront of the huge bed.

"Hi." He replied.

I took the liberty to sit on the ground beside him.

"I take it you don't party?" I asked, trying to kick up a conversation. I don't really know why.

He shrugged, "it's not the party, it's the people... I don't like crowded places, I don't like people." He simply said, picking up his game pad. "Can you play?" He asked.

"Sure," I said, grabbing the second one. The game was actually a car racing one, so I figured it might be easier.

"So, you don't like parties?" He asked, his dark green eyes were focusing on the screen while his hands moved professionally on the pad.

Meanwhile, I was just slamming my car into road safety signs and the corners of the road. "I do," I answered.

"So why are you here?"

"Wasn't feeling it I guess."

"It's my brother isn't it?"

My eyes widened as I took a quick glance at him. "How did you-"

"I just know things. Are you guys having the usual couple fights?" He asked.

I found myself smiling at the term he used. "Well, we were never a couple to begin with, and he also hates me now, so..."

Player two lost! The big screen displayed.

"He doesn't hate you. He's just confused."

"Why do you sound so sure, you're still a kid."

"A kid who's a thousand times brilliant than you can ever dream to be." He smirked. And I had to admit, his smirk made his face look more bright, although it was gone as soon as it came.

"So you're one of those smart kids huh?"

"You can say that."

"You do know your smartness doesn't involve the issues of the heart right?"

"Not necessarily... I'm a behaviorist, I don't do the math nonsense- although, it's easy but- I think I might settle for my behaviourist skill."

I smiled. "You're not as stuck up as I thought- the other day I was here, you barely made eye contact with anyone."

"I wasn't in the mood. I have my moments." He said.

"Hmph, I like this side of you better."

"Don't get used to it, It doesn't last long."

I smiled.

"Well, you don't really have to feel sad about my brother... He doesn't hate you, it's actually the opposite. He just doesn't want to put you in danger... So don't hate him." Max said.

I gave a sad smile. "I'll-" I stopped talking when the door to Tyler's old bedroom flew open.

My eyes widened and my throat went so dry...

Standing at the door, was the demon in the flesh.

Tyler freaking Bresfort.

He came.
