The cracking sound from my left made me jump and bring my legs up to my chest, playing nervously with my fingers. I didn't know for how long I was staring at the direction he dissapeared, waiting for him to come back, but I knew that it was late.
The moon was already shining above my head and everything seemed so silent and dark. I was scared I was alone and for a couple of seconds I thought I should run away, but I didn't do it.
Something inside my head told me not to. I don't know why that stupid voice told me to stay here and wait for him appereance because I was literally waiting for a psycho killer to come.
The cracking sound made me jump again and wrap my arms around my legs, my body shaking because of fear. I let a sigh of relief when I saw his black figure coming from the darkness, his curly hair moving because of the cold breeze.
I watched him coming closer with fear and anxiety growing inside of me. He finally got closer and I saw his sharp features coming into the light. His eyes were half closed, as if he was tired. He didn't say a word as he walked back to the same tree he was laying against last night and sat down.
I felt my stomach turning when he quickly took a glance at me and then back at the river. He pressed his lips in a tight line and shifted in his seat. I tightened the grip around my legs and rested my forehead against my knees.
"How long have you been waiting?" he broke the silence and my head snapped upwards to look at him.
"I..I don't know.." I admitted with a frown on my face.
"You didn't run away." he said flatly and I furrowed my brows.
"I knew I couldn't." I said quietly and he narrowed his eyes, staring at me with concentration.
"You're scared I see." he muttered and a small huff escaped my lips.
"How could I not?" I murmured to myself, looking down.
"You should. You have to." he said cooly.
"What if I don't?" I looked up at him and his eyebrows raised in surprise.
"Are you talking back at me?" he asked through gritted teeth, sending a wave of fear wash through me.
"N-no." I stuttered. "Just being curious."
"Don't, because I can be angry." he snapped.
"When are you not angry?" I asked confused.
"When are you quiet?" he hissed, sending shivers down my spine.
"Sorry." I bit my lower lip.
"Just go to sleep." he demanded, moving his hand.
I nodded even though I knew I couldn't sleep. I don't even know if the last 2 days I slept at all. I turned to my side and closed my eyes, my back moving so I coud find a comfortable position.
I didn't hear him move and that scared me somehow but I tried to stop thinking about it as I fell my eyelashes havier than before and finally fell asleep.
...
This time, he didn't splash water across my face. No. He didn't even say a word to wake me up. I blinked a few times to make the view clearer and finally opened my eyes, taking in his abscense.
Was he testing me? Did he want to see if I would escape?
My thoughts were quickly thrown away when he appeared through the trees from my left, carrying in his strong, inked arms firewood.
I quickly stood up and removed all the dirt from my shirt, caughting his attention. He smirked at me and I furrowed my brows, feeling a little frustrated for not being able to read his thoughts.
"Did you sleep well, love?" he asked in a mocking tone as he placed the firewood down on the ground and turned to look at me.
"As well as I could.." I murmured and a small frown appeared on his face.
"I'm not owning a fucking expensive hotel. So be grateful I didn't let you sleep under the ground." he hissed and walked past me.
"I didn't mean it like that." I pouted and he chuckled lightly.
"Sure." he sarcastically said and continued to walk down the way he came from.
Without thinking, I followed him and almost hit my face with a thin branch of a tree. He chuckled again and I rolled my eyes. I didn't know why I wanted to be around him. Maybe because I didn't want to be alone. Or maybe because I wanted to know more about him. Or maybe because I wanted to find out why that little voice inside my head told me to stay with him and not run.
"Did you really eat my friends?" I asked, my voice shakey.
He let a snort and I felt somehow dumb for asking him something like that. But I have to say that I believed him when he said he still had enough food before he would eat me. I mean, I saw their bodies burning into a ashes but still, what if he did eat them after that?
"Why would I do that?" he laughed and turned his head to look at me with amused eyes.
"You said it." I said slowly, narrowing my eyes at him.
"I don't eat humans." he took a step towards me. "I kill them."
"Why?" I asked in a small voice and he smirked.
"Since when did we become best friends?" he raised a brow.
"I didn't s-say it like that.."
"Stop talking." he snapped and turned his back at me and started walking again.
"Sor-"
"What did I say?!" he yelled and paused, making me froze.
I gulped and bit my lower lip, a wave of fear washing through me. He took a deep breath and glanced at me from his shoulder, making me shiver. He smirked and looked forward, taking some quick steps.
I followed him in silence, too afraid to say something. He was humming a tune, a very familiar tune. It was so weird, listening to a murdered humming a happy tune while he's probably planning how to kill you, and the worst part? I kinda liked it.
My tracks came into a halt when I heard an evil laugh from the distance, a really creepy one. My eyes widened and I looked around me, scanning every possible place that person I just heard laughing could be hiding.
He noticed me standing still and turned around to look at me, a thoughtful expression on his face. I felt like it wasn't just me and him. It felt like someone was watching, and it scared the shit out of me.
"What?" he asked, his tone harsh.
"I-I think I heard someone.." I stammered and he furrowed his brows in concetration.
I saw the way his face changed into a smirk and how his eyes focused on the top of my head. I furrowed my brows in confusion and then's when I felt a cold breath hitting the back of my neck, turning my blood cold.
"Look what's on your head." he nodded upwards.
I slowly looked up and brought my hands on my head, emmidiately regreting it when I felt a big, with many legs insect. I took a quick terrified glance at him to find him bitting his lower lip in order to hold back the laugh, as he watched me with amusement.
"What the.." I trailed off when I felt the insect walking down my forehead.
My eyes widened when I saw it was a big spider with many red eyes staring at me. I screamed and pushed the spider of my head, my hands moving in the air in disgust. I jumped up and down screaming, my eyes filling with tears from the shock.
He, on the other hand, started laughing loudly, clapping his hands and tilting his head back. His eyes were closed and the dimples popped out on his right cheek. I gave him a bewildered look but I couldn't ignore the way my heart raced in my chest while I watched him laugh.
"What was that?" I asked shocked, my hands shaking as they travelled up my hair.
He opened his black eyes and looked at me with a big grin. "It was so cool, you should've seen your face." he said laughing.
"Oh my God.." I said and placed my palm on my chest, trying to catch my breath.
"Good job." he said proudly and I furrowed my brows.
"What?"
"I wasn't talking to you." he spit.
"Who were you talking to then?" I asked scared.
His grin quickly dissapeared and all he gave me was poker face. I started to get even more scared when he closed the distance between us by taking a step towards me and stared right into my eyes.
"You better shut your mouth and stop talking, otherwise I'm gonna cut your tongue." he threatened and I sucked in a breath.
He stood right in front of me, our chests were touching and I felt a wave of electrisity wash through my body, giving me goosebumps. His face seemed to soften somehow, but it was quickly covered with an unreadable expression that made me more curious about him.
It felt like the air was thickening between us with each second that passed. My heart was pounding so loud and my knees went weak, all that because of his presensce that was only inches away from mine. He leaned forward, making my body heat up and my head dizzy. A jolt of electrisity hit through me, giving me goosebumps from head to toe.
He licked his lower lip, something that made my body to lean involuntarily to his. I don't know why I leaned closer, but I felt like my body wanted to do it. It was like I was under a very powerfull spell and I couldn't stop staring at his heart-shaped lips.
My stomach turned when I looked up at his black eyes to find him staring at mine. I saw a ghost of a smile pull at his lips and that somehow made me believe that he was kind. In that moment, I realized something.
He still has a heart.
He suddenly leaned backwards, giving more distance between us. I couldn't stop the hint of dissapointment that hit me and how weird that felt, but after that I realized how close we were. He shook slightly his head and turned around, his back now colliding with my chest.
"Let's go." he muttered and started walking away.
I felt as if I came back to reality, where the guy I that just stood right in front of me is the murderer of my friends, and probably mine too.
"Move." he yelled and I blinked, trying to take control over my body.
I started walking, my eyes glued on his back. It was so weird, the whole aura that was created by the small distance between our bodies.
It's been 5 minutes till we started walking again and we stopped when I saw the firewoods that were placed next to a tree in different packs. I watched closely as he crouched down and grabbed the firewoods, his muscles tensing on his arms, the vains popping out and his back scrunching up as he pulls them off the ground.
He turned around and looked at me, causing my stomach to turn into knots. There was no doubt that his gaze had an affect on me, and it was so overwhelming and frustrating at the same time.
"Take the last one." he nodded towards the last pack of firewood and I nodded.
Even though I knew they were too heavy for me, I attempted to grab them all and pull them off the ground in my arms. A groan escaped my lips as I took a step and felt the weight of the firewood pulling me down.
"Got them?" he asked, his voice a little soft but still harsh.
"Yes." I answered quietly.
"Good." he said and turned around, walking back to the way we came from.
I followed him back to the place we stayed last night, next to the river. He placed his pack down on the ground and wiped the sweat from his forehead with his forearm. I walked next to him slowly, trying to hold back the huffs that wanted to escape my lips as I took the steps.
As I was about to place the firewood on the ground, a flat wood escaped my grip and fell down, causing all the others to fall before I couldn't catch them, creating a mess in front of me. One of the woods scratched my leg and sent a jolt of pain through my body, making me hiss.
"What the fuck!" he yelled next to me and I bit my lower lip, scared of how he's going to react now.
"I'm sorry-it was just too heavy-"
"You're useless!" he cut me off, shoving me to the side with his shoulder as he came to stand in front of me to gather the firewood.
A tear escaped my eye and I wiped it quickly, but he suddenly turned around to face me, his jaw clenching.
"You're a trouble, do you know that?" he said cooly, sending chills down my body.
"I didn't want to-"
"You're a trouble to everyone, not impressed why your friends didn't care when you left them back there." he hissed, stepping forward. I took a step back.
"They didn't even scream for your help because they knew how useless you are." he fisted his palms on his sides, taking one more step closer to me.
A mix of fear and frustration started to rose inside me and the tears were making my vision a little blurry, making it difficult to stare at his black eyes.
"I won't be impressed if your parents don't cry when they'll find your dead body hanging in their back yard from a tree!" he said with his voice escalating, grabbing the collar of my shirt and throwing me back with such a force, that it felt like I was flying while a loud scream escaped my lips.
My back his a tree roughly and I fell down on my stomach, the pain taking away all of the power in my body and my tears now falling down my eyes. Considering the open wound on my leg from that damn wood, I was about to pass out.
But the most part of the pain wasn't caused by his actions, but his words. What he said about my parents killed me the most and I didn't even want to try to stand up.
I started coughing and looked at him walking towards me with a flat wood in his hand. My eyes widened with shock as and my heart pounded erraticaly inside my chest as he stood in front of me and smirked evily, preparing me for the worst.
