I got out of my car and walked to the front door.
My phone rang.
I took it out and sighed annoyed.
Caroline.
I answered fake happy "Hey, Care"
Caroline "hey"
Me "What happened after last night?"
Caroline "I screwed up"
I rolled my eyes "i'm sorry to hear that"
Caroline "I want to invite you to Whitmore's Annual Bitter Ball, a night to celebrate broken hearts, jilted lovers, and bitter singles.' "
I raised an eyebrow "you do realize that i'm in a relationship, right?"
Caroline "please come. And bring Stefan"
I sighed "fine"
I hung up and walked inside.
I saw Damon drunk on the couch.
Stefan walked in behind me and looked at Damon "You want to tell me what the hell's going on out in the driveway?"
There was broken glass everywhere.
I must have hit a nerve last night.
Damon" Ah. I let Enzo drive last night. He's a little out of practice. Almost ended up in the damn foyer."
He stood up.
Stefan raised an eyebrow " Huh. "
Damon's eyes widened " Oh. You mean Aaron."
Stefan nodded " Yeah."
Damon shrugged " Yeah. Well, last night, we hunted him down, and I ripped his throat out. Yeah. I just figured it's time to shove the last branch of the Whitmore family tree into the... wood chipper. "
He drank from the bottle.
Stefan" So Elena breaks up with you, and your first instinct is to go in a killing spree? Could you be any more predictable?"
Enzo walked inside " It was my idea if it makes you feel any better. Enzo. Remember? We met when--"
Stefan" When you were trying to tear Damon's head off. Yeah. I remember."
He looked at Damon " So, what, you guys are old pals again, murder buddies, is that it?"
Damon"Oh, you know how it goes. I mean, I left him for dead, he tried to kill me, we worked things out. You spend 5 years with someone in a dungeon, you have a pretty unbreakable bond."
Enzo "Say, you haven't heard from Dr. Wes Maxfield by any chance? Bloke's next on the Augustine hit list, and he's a slippery little devil."
Stefan"Is that the plan? Kill off Augustine and then go back to your sadistic, psychotic old self?"
Damon" I happen to like my old sadistic self, Stefan. In fact, I miss that guy. That guy was dumb enough to try and change himself to get a girl."
He gave me a look and i raised an eyebrow.
Stefan " Hmm."
Damon" So, get another hobby, brother, because I'm not in the mood to be saved."
Enzo" What do you say? Shall we get you a new hobby? Golf..., scrapbooking?"
Damon nodded "Scrapbooking."
Stefan" Come on, Damon. You're better than this."
Damon" On the contrary, brother. I'm better 'like' this. Ask your little girlfriend"
Stefan looked at me "what does he mean?"
I shrugged "i don't know"
Damon "Adelaide changed me, Stefan. She finally told me what she thinks of me. That i'm an asshole, a bad person, that i don't deserve happiness, and more"
Stefan scoffed "why would she say something like that to you? she loves you"
Damon looked at me, talking to Stefan "Why don't you ask her yourself?"
Stefan looked at me"is that true?"
I shook my head "of course not. You're my best friend, i love you more than anything. Well, I love Stefan more but you get my point"
Stefan looked at Damon "you were drunk, Damon. When Adelaide says she didn't say anything then she didn't say anything. You know her, if something bothers her she just says it without a filter"
Damon scoffed.
I scoffed, making Damon the bad one in this"i've heard enough of this"
I walked upstairs into Stefan's room.
Stefan followed me inside "you okay?"
I turned to him, pretended to be hurt "I - I don't understand, Stefan. why would he lie like that? i would never say something like that to him, Stefan, you have to believe me"
Stefan nodded "i do"
Me "Just because Elena broke up with him doesn't mean he just can go around and screw over people. Especially not me, he should know better than to do that to me"
Stefan pulled me to him.
Me "He's my best friend. I can't believe he would come at me like that"
Stefan"Hey"
He hugged me. I hugged back, smirking. This is so much easier than i though.
I let go of him "Caroline invited me to Whitmore's Annual Bitter Ball, a night to celebrate broken hearts, jilted lovers, and bitter singles. I wanted to ask you if you wanna be my date"
Stefan raised an eyebrow "I'm not single. Neither are you. "
I sighed, nodding "i know that. Caroline needs me there and it would make me happy if you would be my date"
Stefan smiled and pt a hand on my cheek "i would love to be your date tonight, angel"
I smiled and kissed him.
In my bedroom.
I was in my new bedroom, Adelaide's bedroom, looking through her walk in closet. My sister has taste.
My phone buzzed.
I took it out and answered "Hello?"
Nadia "You promised we would spend some time together. How long do you expect me to sit around the Mystic Grill like some sad, lonely bar fly?"
I rolled my eyes "Oh, please. Don't pretend that baby-sitting Matty Blue Eyes is some sort of hardship. I mean, didn't you lure him into your bed in Prague?"
Nadia" I didn't lure him, and I wasn't compelling him to forget everything. He's not a puppet."
Me "Ah. Ok. I get it. You like him. That's adorable."
Nadia " Ok. I'm hanging up now."
There was a knock on my door.
Me "yes?"
Stefan walked inside.
I smiled "hey, you done?"
Stefan "can i meet you there?"
I asked worried "why? did something happen?"
Stefan "Enzo happened"
I nodded.
Stefan "I'll meet you there, i promise"
I nodded "okay. "
He gave me a quick kiss and walked out.
