I turned to face her standing up, she shrunk back when she looked into my eyes "if you must know her parents died recently, so yeah I am allowing her time to grieve the loss of them. Next time, think there may be a reason that some allow the child to choose to skip and not because they don't care about her education, or better yet don't eavesdrop because you may hear something you don't like" I snapped.
"Don't talk to me like that. Do you know who I am?" She asked, flipping her hair.
"I don't care," I said, she went to slap me but I caught her arm and put pressure until her face screwed up in pain "don't pick any fights you can't win" I whispered so that she could hear me before I let go of her hand. She cradled her hand to her chest and looked at me with hatred "have a good day ma'am" I said, grabbing my container, and turning my back so that I could leave. I felt arms wrap around me scratching at my neck, opening the scab, I drove my foot back into her leg when I heard a scream she let go and I turned around to face her. She tried to attack again but this time as she took a step forward she had a small limp, I punched her in the face when I heard a crack, she put her hands to her nose and looked at me in fright.
"Stay put," the cashier said as I was about to head out. So I went and sat down not taking my eyes off of them, I took out my phone and called Glenda.
"Hey what's up? Why do I hear sirens?" Glenda asked.
"May have got into a fight so can you take Carley home, just say that a student wanted help with their work" I said, I heard the car start.
"Okay, I'll see you later I love you," Glenda said and heard the car pull away.
"Okay love you too," I said, Glenda hung up and I put my phone in my pocket. I continued to watch her walk around but when I heard the sirens outside she stopped walking and she looked towards the door. The police came up and arrested the both of us before leading us to two separate cars, they didn't talk to either of us. I rolled my eyes as we made our way to the station.
When we arrived we were brought into separate rooms I was cuffed to the table after I sat down they left and I was bored. I looked at my free hand and saw the chafing that had happened from the cuffs, I rubbed my wrist with the hand that was cuffed and waited for someone to join. Eventually, a female officer joined me, "hello Maya, this is the third time you were arrested in two weeks, would you like to explain to me what happened?" She asked.
"Of course, me and my wife and daughter were out having ice cream to cheer her up as her birth parents died recently and we said that she was able to be out of school for however long she needed to properly mourn the loss of them, when this woman came up and asked why we are allowing our daughter decide when she goes to school, very rudely may I say, I asked that Glenda take our daughter out of the shop and to the car while I explained to her why. I explained that she lost her birth parents, that I will allow her time to mourn them and it may take however long she needs, and that she shouldn't eavesdrop on people's conversation, she then tried to punch me but I grabbed her wrists and put some pressure to stop her from being able to hurt me, she asked if I knew who she was and flipped her hair I then said goodbye and as I was walking away, she scratched my neck causing it to bleed, I shoved my leg back hurting her leg causing the limp, I turned to face her when she came at me again to try and punch me when I punched her in the face, I was then going to leave when the person behind the counter said to stay put so I sat down, called my wife and let her know what happened and to take our daughter home" I said.
"So you tried leaving before it escalated?" She asked.
"I did, I'm not a violent person but I will defend myself and sometimes I will admit a little extreme but I don't start it," I said.
"I still need to see what the officer is talking about with Mrs. Smith but I think all that's going to happen is a warning," she said standing up.
"Thank you," I said with a small smile, she nodded and left. I sat there until she came back but this time she was with someone that looked vaguely familiar.
"So Maya we have found DNA underneath the nails of a recently found dead man by the name of Jeff Duncan" vaguely familiar misses said.
"I'm sorry but you look familiar, have we met?" I asked.
"Yes I'm Brandy, so how do you explain your DNA under a dead person's nails?" Brandy asked.
"Because he scratched up my back, we were together Saturday and we had sex. And yes before you ask, my wife knew we are in an open marriage, it was a one-night stand, we met at a party actually and got to talking before he gave me an address and time to meet up, which I did. I haven't heard from him since. I can call my wife and she will tell you that she knew I was with him" I said.
"Okay, call her and put her on speaker," Brandy said.
I took out my phone and went to Glenda and called her and put it on speaker, when she picked up "hey Doll is everything okay at the police?" Glenda asked.
"Hey mi amor, everything is okay. But they found my DNA under Jeff's nails as he died," I said.
"You mean that one-night stand you had?" Glenda asked.
"Yeah him," I said.
"Well it's sad that he died but I'm not surprised your DNA's under his nails your back was pretty scratched up," Glenda said.
"Okay, I'll talk later, love you," I said.
"Love you too," Glenda said and hung up.
"See, my wife completely knew that I was with him. We agreed that we could be with others once a month, as long as we were open with each other and communicated" I said.
"Do you know who would've wanted to hurt him?" Brandy asked.
"No, I only met him twice, once at a party for about 10 minutes before he left and the second was at his house in the woods to hook up. It was only a one-night thing as we never even gave each other a phone number, I didn't know him well besides his first name so I'm afraid that I can't help you" I said.
"Okay thank you anyways," Brandy said, she took the keys out and uncuffed my hand, I gently pulled it back and lightly rubbed my hand. "You are free to go," Brandy said.
"Thank you," I said and stood up, the two females left and I followed them, they went left while I went outside, I pulled out my phone and sent a message to Glenda 'Hey I'm good to come home, could someone come pick me up?' I hit send and headed outside. I closed my eyes and let out a sigh, I rubbed my temple to try and destress.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" Jake asked.
"Hey Jake, I got into a fight at the ice cream shop because this person attacked me, they arrested the both of us, and they let me go with a warning. Then they questioned me a little bit about Jeff's murder as they found my DNA under his nails but I explained that he was a one-night stand and Glenda and I were in an open marriage, they even had me call her and she said the same thing as they didn't believe me and I didn't want them to think that Glenda did it out of jealousy so the fact that she knew about it was good" I said.
"Did you sleep with him?" Jake asked.
"That's what I said," I said with a smirk.
"You didn't," Jake said, I shrugged my shoulders when Tiffany pulled up, I waved bye to Jake and got in the back as Charles was in the front.
"Why are you back here?" Tiffany asked as she went back to my house.
"I got into a fight, the police were called and I was arrested. The other person instigated it by trying to choke me, scratching at my neck she reopened the wound that was mostly healed. You should see her, I broke her nose and she has a limp" I said.
"Atta girl kid," Charles said.
"Chucky you shouldn't encourage it" Tiffany scolded.
"Why not, by the sounds of it Maya won and the other bitch got what she deserved," Charles said.
"But she was arrested," Tiffany said.
"And now she's here" Charles snapped, Tiffany pulled over onto the side of the road. "Why the fuck are you stopping?" Charles asked.
"Because I'm not letting you talk down on me, you can get out," Tiffany said.
"I'm not getting out," Charles said.
"Get the fuck out of the car Chucky," Tiffany said.
"Fine but don't expect me to come back to the hotel tonight" Charles snapped and got out slamming the door behind him. Tiffany continued on leaving Charles on the side of the road.
"Being with him is the happiest I've ever been, but it's also the most frustrating," Tiffany said.
"Yeah, I get that," I said, they've been fighting more the last month starting over stupid shit that they quickly escalate but they always seem to make up by the end of the day.
"How?" Tiffany asked.
"It's one of the reasons Glenda and I wanted to go to New York next week but we can't now, but we are now taking Carley and the three of us are going to Miami on Friday. A little road trip always brought us back together" I said.
"Maybe that's what we need, maybe after we get new bodies we can travel a bit," Tiffany said as she pulled into my house, we got out and headed inside. Glenda was at the door when it opened, she looked at my neck.
"She just scratched me," I said cupping her face, she was angry. "Don't worry I broke her nose" I said, she nodded with a smile and then kissed me.
"I'm glad that you're okay," Glenda said, pulling away. "Now go wash the blood off," Glenda said, ushering me upstairs, I laughed but headed up to one of the bathrooms and gently cleaned the blood off my neck and chest. When I was all cleaned up I headed back downstairs.
"Mom you know he'll be fine," Glenda said as I entered the living room, I went over and sat in her lap, she lightly played with my hair.
"I know but I still worry about him," Tiffany said.
"And that's normal, you love him," Glenda said, I put my head on her shoulder and closed my eyes.
"Thank you for remembering," I whispered.
"Of course, I wouldn't forget anything you ask me to do," Glenda said. I nodded my head and hummed in appreciation.
"Yeah but I don't think he loves me," Tiffany said.
"Mom, you know he does," Glenda said.
The next thing I know I'm being lifted up. "What?" I mumbled, opening my eyes.
"Go back to sleep mi amor, You fell asleep an hour ago so I'm bringing you up to our bed," Glenda said, I nodded my head and closed my eyes while Glenda brought me to our room, she laid me down and gently took off my clothes and covered me up. I opened my eyes so that I could talk to her.
"Thank you" I mumbled.
"Of course, I love you," Glenda said, kissing me I responded back.
"I love you too," I said.
"I know now, go back to sleep," Glenda said, I nodded, closed my eyes, and went back to sleep, I felt pressure against my forehead and then it was gone and I was alone again but I was too tired to get up and do anything so I fell back to sleep.
