Rebecca's POV:
I walked quietly through the woods, pushing some branches off my way. I didn't want to make any noise, fearing the demon might hear me and find me. I had to go back to Harry, but it was difficult since I didn't even know where I was.
I heard someone crying, making me come to a halt. I crouched down and listened closely, trying to recognize the voice and where it came from. I furrowed my brows when I heard another muffled voice speaking. I stood up and slowly started walking again, following the voices that got louder and louder.
I found a wooden stick on the ground and picked it up in case the voices are the demon messing with me. I raised the stick in the air when I was two feet away and got out of the big bush, revealing myself to the voices. A scream was heard at my sudden appearance and my eyes widened when I saw it was Calum, Grace and Ashton sitting down, hiding.
“Rebecca?” Ashton breathed, giving me a bewildered look.
I sighed out of relief and lowered the stick. “God, it's you.” I mumbled, walking towards them.
“A-are you okay? How did you escape?” Calum asked, placing a hand on my shoulder when I sat down next to him.
“I'm fine. He didn't hurt me.” I replied, running a hand through my wet hair.
“What?” they all said the same time, giving me weird and confused looks. I noticed Grace's green eyes were puffy and bloodshoot, probably from the crying. The sight of my best friend being like that broke my heart.
“It's complicated.” I sighed again, shaking my head and looking down.
“What do you mean it's complicated?” Ashton pressed.
A small wave of frustration washed through me and I looked up at him with my lips pursed tightly. He got the message and nodded, dropping the subject. Grace sniffled and sighed across from me, her blonde hair a little messy. Calum was staring down at a rock, thinking about something. It felt weird, being all together again after so long. Things could've turned differently if I had gotten out of my hiding spot that night, and I would probably end up dead, too.
“Is there any way we can escape?” Grace murmured. She looked at me with worry in her eyes, a hint of hope flashing behind them.
I wanted to tell her that there is a way they can all escape, but I wasn't completely sure if it was going to happen. I gave her a sad smile and her eyes started watering again. I've never seen Grace so..weak. She was always confident and strong whilst I was always the weak awkward girl following from behind when she walked. But after everything I've been through, I came to be stronger than the three of them.
“We're screwed,” she murmured, her voice cracking. Ashton wrapped his arm around her and brought her closer to him, trying to comfort her.
“That fucker has to die.” Ashton said coldly. Frustration flooded through me at the fact that Ashton called Harry 'fucker', but I ignored it.
“Did you see his eyes?” Calum said, looking up at Ashton with wide brown eyes. “They were black dude, like the whole eye.”
“I saw it.” Ashton nodded. “He was scary,”
“He was.” Grace sniffled, leaning her head against Ashton's shoulder.
“Do you know where he is now?” I asked, gaining their attention.
They all gave me weird looks. “Why would you care?” Calum asked.
“I have to go find him.”
“What?!” Grace shrieked.
“Are you crazy?!” Ashton hissed.
“What the hell?!” Calum gave me a bewildered look.
“Guys calm down,” I moved my hand in a calming gesture. “I know what I'm doing. I know him too well.” I assured.
“What do you mean? You are besties with a fucking psycho with black eyes?” Ashton spat.
I clenched my jaw, not liking the way he talks about Harry. “You don't know anything, Ashton. So stop talking.” I scolded.
“Are you supporting him now?” Ashton was angry now.
“Yes I am because I know more things than you do.”
“Like what?”
“Like how we was about to kill all of you if i weren't there.”
“Are you–,“
“Guys stop!” Calum cut Ashton off, raising his hands. “This is not the right way to solve a problem.”
“Calum's right.” Grace agreed quietly.
I sighed the same time Ashton did. “Sorry.” he murmured.
“Yeah,” I mumbled, looking down.
“We should all stick together and support each other, not fight.” Calum said.
“Rebecca,” Grace said, making me look up at her puffy red eyes. “What do you have in mind?”
I sighed and played with the stick in my hands. “Saving you and Harry.”
“Harry's the guy we saw earlier?” Calum asked.
I nodded. “He needs help too.”
Ashton scoffed, gaining an icy glare from me. He looked away, not meeting my eye. “What can we do to help?” Calum asked.
“Nothing.” I replied timidly. “You're not taking part of this.” I said firmly.
“We can't let you go there by yourself, you are going to get killed.” Ashton said, his green eyes showing concern.
“I'm not going to put you in danger. You are going to stay here hidden.” I said seriously.
“Rebecca you can't go.” Grace shook her head.
“Yes I can.” I said confidently and stood up. “I have to help Harry.”
They all stood up. “We're coming with you.” Calum said.
“No. You're staying here to protect each other. Don't look for me or follow me. And I mean it.” I was being dead serious.
They sighed and Grace nodded. “Okay.” she murmured.
“Stay strong, Becca.” Calum said, pulling me in for a hug. I hugged him back, gritting my teeth to stop the tears from appearing.
“You too.” I murmured, my heart sinking.
Grace was now crying and her sobs made me suck in a breath. I pulled back and hugged her tightly, hiding my face in her messy hair. “I'll be back,” I whispered.
“Promise.” she cried, tightening her arms even more around me.
“I promise.” I said, not truly believing I will keep my promiss.
I pulled back and gave her a sad smile, taking in the sadness behind her watery eyes. I then pulled Ashton in a warm embrace, his strong arms wrapping around me and holding me close.
“Come back to us.” he mumbled.
“I will.” I said, pressing a kiss on his cheek as I pulled back.
After that, I walked past him and fought the urge not to turn around and give one last glance at them. I held my tears back as I got further away from them and closer to death.
“I'm sorry,” I whispered and felt one single tear roll down my cheek.
I was walking for minutes but it seemed like hours through the woods, trying to find Harry. I could feel him close, but I didn't know where exactly he was. I found myself humming quietly, trying to make the fear go away as the dark forest seemed scary to me.
I sang Harry's song inside my head, feeling my heart skipping beats. It really helped thinking about him and his voice, so all I was focused on was him.
I suddenly saw fire from some meters away, making me furrow my brows. I gulped, scared it might be a trap. I fisted my palms and tightened my grip around the stick, preparing myself to fight. Come on girl, you can do this. Taking a deep breath, I walked towards the fire.
My heart fell down to my stomach when I saw Michael sitting next to the fire, warming his hands up. I blinked, not expecting to see him there. His back was facing me and his green hair was messy.
“Michael?” I said quietly, walking closer to him. He didn't turn around to look at me, which was something that made my heart shake inside my chest. “Michael,” I placed my hand on his shoulder only to pull it back immidiately when I felt the coldness radiating from his body.
He then turned his head, making me scream. He had black eyes and tears of blood were rolling down his cheeks. My lower lip was trembling as I stared at him, wanting to help him but too scared to do anything.
“Oh my..” I whispered in pure shock, backing away from him.
He stood up and turned around and then's when I saw blood soaked shirt. I literally freaked out when I saw a knife digged in his stomach and I couldn't even move. He grabbed the knife with his hand and pulled it out, making me cringe at the sight. He raised the knife and started walking towards me.
I shook my head and backed away. “No Michael, don't do this,” I said, raising my hands.
He didn't say anything. He kept staring at me with his black, distant eyes. The knife glistened thanks to the fire and it made fear course my body. I knew I had to leave so I quickly swung around to leave but a hand took a tight hold of my arm and pulled me back against a hard chest. I breathed heavily when I realized I was pressed against Michael's chest, the knife he was holding pressed to my neck.
I kicked his leg, managing to loosen his grip around me and free myself. I reached to take the knife but ht moved his hand away and glared at me. He let a loud shout as ue attacked me, making me scream and fall down on the ground. He straddled my waist with his legs and brought the knife close to my neck. I used my wooden stick to hold his forearms as far from me as I could so he couldn't stab me.
“Michael stop! It's me! Rebecca!” I yelled, feeling my throat tight.
He pushed harder, wanting to stab me no matter what. Tears burned my eyes when my hands went weaker and the knife came closer to my collarbone. I felt the tip of it scratch against my skin, making me squirm. I screamed when the knife got a little deeper, blood quickly escaping the wound.
“Please no!” I begged, shaking my head.
He hissed and pulled the knife lower, creating a deeper scratch. The pain was horrible and the fear I might not be able to escape made tears roll down my cheeks.
He leaned his face closer to me until he had his lips right next to my ear. His hair fell on my cheek, making goosebumps arise. Everything around me seemed scary, especially our large shadows that were made by the fire.
“I know it's you, Rebecca,” he whispered, making my blood run cold.
“What..” I whispered in shock, the pain still having me shaking.
And with that, he pulled away and stood up. I tried to catch my breath and placed my hand on my wound, sending a jolt of pain through me at the touch. I gritted my teeth and backed away from Michael, still holding the stick in my hand that till now didn't help me a lot.
He stared at me blankly, the knife that had my blood on it in his hand. I tried to understand what the hell was going on, but thanks to the fear I didn't have the time before I stood up and ran away. There were two questions that haunted my mind as I ran through the forest:
Where is Harry? And why did Michael just let me go?
