Tangled Strings (sequel to Red Strings)

Chapter 42

Skyler's POV

"Mom what do you want for dinner?" I shout opening up the fridge "Mom?" I ask again when there's no answer, I sigh climbing the stairs to her bedroom, where I find her fast asleep, tons of paperwork sprawled out across the bed. I smile at her noticing the bags under her eyes, I bend down collecting the papers of her bed and trying to organize them I see the words Divorce Settlement sprawled across the front.  My stomach turns and I quickly place the papers down pulling a throw blanket over my mom. Then my phone buzzes making me jump as my mom stirs and I get out of the room as quickly as I can.

"Hello?" I whisper even though I was away from the bedroom now there's no answer. "Hello?" I say again not thinking to check the caller ID before I answered.  I pull the phone away from my ear and see it's Luke's number "Luke?" I say again trying to sound fine. There's no answer again so I hang up, confused and hurt and then sit down with a cuppa in front of the TV watching Castle by myself. 

I start to browse twitter favouriting tweets before realizing it's been over a week since I made my last youtube video, so I yank my equipment out of my suitcase and start to set it up. I plug my ear buds into my phone and play some music off pandora dancing around a little as I position the lights properly. A new song comes on and I freeze automatically recognizing the boys voices. 

"Simmer down, simmer down

They say we're too young now to amount to anything else

We work too damn hard for this just to give it up now

In my American Apparel underwear

And I know now, that I'm so down

I'm shocked realizing this song is there first single and realizing that I knew absolutely nothing about it! I listen to the rest of the song frozen in place letting the familiarity of Luke's voice comfort me. I can't help but feel proud of them, as I the song ends I pick up my phone and send a text to Luke.

I take a deep breath before sitting down in front of the camera and flipping the view finder towards me and clicking record. "Hey cuties have you heard the new 5SOS song? Because I have and I'm obsessed anyway speaking of being obsessed this week we're going to be talking about things we can't live without, for example I can't live without my phone. Surprised? No, but I think the phone is such a great way to connect with people and I think I'd be lost without it." 

After I film the video I pull out my phone and send out a tweet 

@Skyler_Andrews: Just filmed a video about things I can't live without, what can't you live without? 

I leave not waiting for a response and head into the kitchen, when I heat my doorbell ring. I can hear my stomach growling but I walk begrudgingly to the door. And when I open it up I come face to face with the last person I wanted to see.
