Josie's pov

"You can't be serious" Leo gasped at me in surprise.

"What?" I laughed, enjoying every second of his reaction.

"How can you not like cinnamon? It basically tastes good on everything" he shook his head in disappointment. I smiled, casually looking up into the sky before my eyes fell back onto him. I couldn't help but stare as the sun hit his skin perfectly.

"It tastes so bad, I can't handle the smell either" I added.

"I can't believe I have a mate who doesn't like cinnamon, I'm leaving you" he stated causing me to laugh and nearly fall off the rock I was comfortably sitting on.

He moved swiftly grabbing my arm, but my other arm was already half way to the ground ready to save myself, so I ended up falling onto my back. I groaned, letting the pain I felt in my back subside.

He crouched down to my level, letting go of my arm, worry laced in his features. "Are you alright?" He asked.

I tried to pretend like it hurt more than it did but my laugh blew my cover, the sound echoed through his backyard. His look of concern slowly faded away once he realized I was fine. He scoffed at me before joining me on the ground. I couldn't help but notice his elbow grazing mine. We both sighed, enjoying the outdoors. It was only a week since I was rescued and my relationship with Leo was growing each day. We spent most days together, considering he didn't want to leave me alone, and I didn't mind either. My mom came and left regularly since she still had work but we both agreed to stay in Alpha house since I - in her words "needed to understand where I stood".

Considering I had missed many weeks of school, Leo's father proposed I finish my schooling here so that I could graduate. I missed my friends but I had made plans to meet them during weekend so that was something to look forward to. My dad was still in the dungeon, and my mom barely mentioned him even though one of the helpers told me she visits him daily. I tried not to think too much about it because my mom has always been a strong woman and I knew she wouldn't do anything without a good reason.

"I love that you're here," he whispered, head turning towards me. I looked up at him not knowing what to say. I had never been this close to a boy before in my life and even though it felt so natural to be around him, it still felt odd to suddenly have all these butterflies and nerves because his proximity, but my wolf was so relaxed and she enjoyed this just as much I did.

"You're doing it again" he said after a while of just staring at me. I smiled returning his stare.

"What exactly am I doing?" I asked in return.

"Falling for me"

"How are you so cheesy?" I covered my face, trying to hide my blush. He continued to laugh, and I tried hard not to want more of the sound. I could listen to him laugh all day.

"Only for you" he winked.

I fanned myself animatedly. "Stop, I'm burning up here"

He shifted his body closer, propping himself up on his elbow, his hand softly landed on my stomach. There was so much tenderness in his gaze that I couldn't look away.

"Do you want to cool down?" He asked, but because he was so close, my eyes went straight to his mouth.

"That's awfully ambiguous of you" I replied.  A small smile broke onto his face. I tried to erase the thought but a part of me really wanted to pull him in for a kiss.

"Can we go for a run?" He asked.

"Right now?" I asked.

"Yes, right now" he nodded.

"It's so late already, and we we'll probably get called in soon."

"Run with me Josie" he over pronounced each word. "Please, Adriaan has been dying to meet your wolf. I know you've been wanting to shift so get up and run with me" he said while he got up and I had to keep my whine to myself because he wasn't next to me anymore. He extended his hand out for me.

I could feel Elena getting excited.

He stepped back. "Forgive me if Adriaan is a bit excited." He said before shifting. I watched in awe at his size. His fur was as black as the night, and towards his tail was a beautiful hazel that almost looked gold. I shifted right after, recognizing his impatience.

Almost immediately he jumped on me and we both tumbled, I could tell he was being gentle considering he was much bigger than me. I sat back and let Elena have her fun. It was so cute how Adriaan licked her continuously while she tried to bite him. We ran further into the forest, me right behind his tail, we stopped after a while. Me panting slowly before falling onto my side. I looked up to find him watching me. I really wished I could talk to him, but our mind link would only exist after we marked each other, the thought had me wanting to bury my head in my paws. Why was I like this?

He slowly trotted towards me before lying next to me, half of his body weight on me. Elena licked his face earning a small growl. She was just returning the favour.

"Isn't he so beautiful" She sighed, appreciating our mate.

"He is" I agreed.

We continued to relax, enjoying each other's company. We played some more for a while and I was positive that we both successfully had rubbed our scents on each other. It was so amusing just how much attention Adriaan needed. He made sure my attention was on him the entire time. It was endearing. I was grateful for this precious time together, to just co-exist. He was claiming his place in my heart. I yelped when I felt him nudge me and I fell onto my side playfully.

I wanted to get up but a strong wind made me glance at the sky, wondering if a storm was coming. The sky was still so clear, making me frown in confusion.

When I looked down at Leo, my vision was suddenly clouded with red. I suddenly growled at him, his presence putting me in defence mode. I stood on all fours, rooting my hind legs to the ground, with a determination I couldn't recognize. He growled back at me, teeth snarling and angry, but for some reason my anger only grew. I jumped on him, my teeth going for his neck but he flipped me over.  I pushed him off me, brooding. All I wanted to see was blood, I couldn't focus on anything else. My head felt so full but quiet at the same time. He scratched me, and I howled, knowing that was definitely going to show after I shifted. I charged for his hind legs, trapping him while I bit into one of them. He kicked me off and I landed a few meters away.

"What is going on here!" I heard a loud voice, and I immediately stopped in my tracks.

"Leonardo! Shift, in my office now." The voice demanded and I shrunk into myself. The power radiating off the Alpha's voice made me immediately submit. I didn't dare look up but I heard Leo shift and walk off. I sat there shaking, sitting in my own confusion and fear.

What the hell just happened? What did I just do?

"We'll talk about whatever I just witnessed later Josephine. Something's happened with your father."
