Rachel is in her apartment anxiously awaiting the phone call to hear back about Fanny Brice in Funny Girl. She's completely nervous and can't help but think about what she heard Rupert and Paolo say at her chemistry read. "Well, Paolo, you're our Tony winner. What did you think?" Rupert asked Paolo as Rachel listened in. "Aw, she's charming. And she certainly looks right for the part. I just fear that she's too young, you know, too green?" Paolo said honestly. "That was my concern as well. Lack of experience. She'd be a discovery, but it's such a risk," Rupert sighed. "I mean, that part, it's a mountain. At her age, I never could have pulled it off," Paolo said honestly. "Now, where did we leave it with Claire Danes' people?" Rupert said as Rachel hid out heartbroken. How could things have gotten so complicated for her? Wasn't her dream supposed to be coming true. As she waited she couldn't help but think of the perfect song to sing, The Beatles 'Yesterday'.

As Rachel sang she took a walk around New York City going to all the places she was with Finn on their first trip there. She walked by the theatre where they were hanging up the 'Funny Girl' musical sign. She then walked past Sardi's, remembering her date with Finn there. She then walked through central park, where the New Directions had visited when they were trying to get inspired to perform at Regionals. She then arrived at the fountain they had also performed at when they were going around New York. She soon made her way to the Bow Bridge, the place Finn had told her to meet him when he tried to get back together with her on that same New York trip. Rachel looked at her phone at the photo the New Directions had taken after winning Sectionals the first time. She couldn't help but think how much easier life had been at that time and longed to be back. Rachel quickly put her phone done before sitting at her mirror to complete the song. Rachel sighed as she finished the song seeing her phone hadn't gone off, still worrying that the role she had longed for was no longer an option for her.

Cut to McKinley High where Sam is laying on the piano. "So how does it work with gay marriage, you take his last name or does he take yours, or?" Sam asked slightly confused as he looked towards Blaine. "Right now, I'm honestly just excited that Kurt said yes," Blaine smiled a bit "Hey, are you looking forward to prom?". Sam just shrugged, he was somewhat excited for prom but things with Quinn weren't exactly where he wanted them to be. "I fell asleep last night while Tina was texting me about her prom dress," Blaine chuckled a bit before noticing the blank expression on Sam's face. "Are you okay?" Blaine asked as Sam sat up sighing. "I just...thought when I asked Quinn to prom it would've cleared things up between us..." Sam said as Blaine nodded. "So I'm guessing she didn't agree to date again?" Blaine asked. "No," Sam said shaking his head "I'm just...so confused about what she wants. She says she isn't good with relationships but also doesn't want us to see other people. I just don't know what's going on. I wish I knew if this was like a real date or not." Blaine looked at Sam sympathetically. "Damn, I have seriously been unlucky in love," Sam sighed as Blaine was about to respond his thoughts were interrupted by Will entering. "Come on, guys, we're back with the Beatles," Will exclaimed as the New Directions got excited as they took their seats. "Now this week's lesson has almost come to an end and I'm really proud of how you guys have done with it. But there is something very important coming up this weekend," Will smiled as he wrote 'Prom' on the board as the New Directions cheered, all but Sam who still looked conflicted over Prom. "Much like every year, we are the prom once again," Will grinned. "Oh joy," Kitty said rolling her eyes. "Now besides completing our Beatles lesson, we will also be preparing songs to perform at the," Will said as he gestured towards where he had written "Prom".

Just then the PA system kicked on as Sue's voice rang over the school. "Good afternoon, McKinley High. This year, the senior and junior proms will be fused together, not that it matters but the budgets are tight thanks to the failed leadership of Principal Figgins," Sue said as the New Directions made a face, this was actually good news for them, they didn't have to perform at two separate proms. "This means the nominees for King and Queen are from both the junior and senior classes. And now for the moment that will crush 99% of your misguided views about your own popularity. Here are your nominees for Prom King and Queen," Sue said as the New Directions held their breaths, particularly the Seniors. "First, here are your nominees for Prom King: Blaine Anderson..." Sue said as Blaine beamed as the New Directions cheered for him, Sam pat him on the back. "...Sam Evans," Sue said as Sam beamed knowing Quinn would be extremely happy that he was a potential prom king. "Artie Abrams..." Sue said as Artie looked stunned as Kitty kissed his cheek. "And "Stoner" Brett Bukowski," Sue said as we cut to Stoner Brett who is asleep in a classroom. "And now onto the Queen," Sue said as Tina looked nervous. "Please let it be me God, please let it be me Yahweh, please let it be me," Tina said in a voice over as she held his breath. "Sugar Motta..." Sue said as cut to Sugar squealing excitedly in a classroom full of people as she handed out money to them. "...Aimee Ryan......Jordan Stern," Sue said as we cut to the cheerios locker room as Aimee and Jordan celebrate with and cheerios. "And, inexplicably, Tina Cohen-Chang," Sue said with distain. "Yes! Yes!" Tina celebrated. "Congratulations," Sue said in a lackluster voice. "Yes! Yes! Oh, my God, yes!" Tina continued to celebrate. "Six of you will be disappointed," Sue shrugged as she went off the PA system. "Yes! Yeah! Yeah! Yes!" Tina continued to celebrate as Blaine approached her. "Tina. Wow! I know this is what you've always wanted. Maybe we should run for prom court together," Blaine smiled as Tina nodded. "Definitely. We are so going win this! This is my chance to be bigger than Jesus," Tina said as Kitty was taken aback as were most of the New Directions. "So can I count on all your votes?" Tina asked in a hopeful tone as the New Directions grew silent. "Awkward," Unique whispered. "You've got mine," Marley offered trying to be supportive. "Thank you Marley! If only the rest of you could be so supportive of one of your own," Tina said slightly annoyed before turning towards the band "Hit it!" She then began to perform The Beatles 'Revolution'.
