I sighed as one of the maids massaged the sides of my heads feeling like it could explode any minute.

"Your majesty" I looked at my sister who was now serving as my head maid.

"Yes," I waved for the maid behind me to leave. My sister looked very serious and she even looked fearful.

"The sultan is sick" I stood up and marched over to her.

"What's wrong with him?" I asked worriedly.

"Smallpox" my heart stopped beating for a moment as the words left her lips. I could feel my whole body start to shake as the possibilities started to go through my head. My son was sick with a deadly disease and could die any minute.

"Send doctors to Mehmed's Sanjak and to Murad's too and let him examine both of them and for the doctors here let them examine every person who lives under this roof even me" I ordered her.

I walked over to my couch and sat down feeling my heart in my throat as the idea of any of my children leaving this world so early hit me.

"Mother" I looked up to see Zahra walk in. I held my hand up stopping her from walking any closer.

"Do not walk any closer. I could have the sickness and I do not want to be the cause of your pain or death" I said brokenly. I yearned to hold my children at the moment knowing that their brother, my son, was in danger.

After everyone examined it appeared that Osman was the only one who was sick and it was obvious now that someone was trying to kill him.

"Bring me Meleksima" I ordered walking out of my room and down the corridor. As I walked out of the harem everyone bowed to me but I paid them no attention as I speed walked to the sultan's wing.

When I reached it I could see doctors walking in and out of the room some holding bottles and bowls and some holding towels. I walked over to the head doctor stopping in front of him.

"Sultana" he bowed respectfully before taking off his mask that protected him from getting the sickness too.

"How is my son?" I asked worriedly. He looked down giving me my answer silently. It didn't need to be spoken out loud for I had already got the message, my son was not good, my son was dying.

"You listen here and you listen carefully, you have only one choice and that is to cure my son," I said starting to get angry with him. He was a healer for god's sake it was his job to heal people.

"Sultanim-" I cut him off by raising my hand glaring at him

"Sultanim-" I cut him off by raising my hand glaring at him. He bowed before walking back into the room placing a face mask on his face.

"Sultana" I looked beside me to see the heavily pregnant Meleksima with bloodshed eyes.

"You wanted to speak with me" she stayed looking up at me with saddened eyes.

"I wanted to ask you if you've seen the sultan with anyone weird or suspicious lately," I said walking to the teras in the sultan's room through a different way instead of through the actual room, she followed be silently as I spoke.

"Yes sultana he's been seeing a different," she said. I sighed knowing this could be false and she just hated the girl for stealing Osman from her but I could not blame her for I would have done the same thing if I and Ahmed were in her and Osman's place.

"Who is she?" I asked leaning against the railing and watched over Istanbul as people started to light up their torches for the sun had begun to set leaving only a blue hoe behind.

"What is her name?" I asked watching as boats arrived at our shores.

"Zainab," she said. I nodded at Malin to go question her immediately. She bowed before leaving us.

"Go back to your room Meleksima and look after my grandchild" I ordered. She bowed before leaving me alone on the teras. I walked over to the window showing inside of the room where I saw my son laying on his bed unconscious as doctors ran around him.

I couldn't help but remember the day I spoke to him about his fears

I couldn't help but remember the day I spoke to him about his fears.

"My worst fear mother is that I will be betrayed and someone will try and hurt you or my siblings," Osman said looking over the horizon as I took my pledge beside him placing a hand over his in comfort.

"I won't let anyone hurt you or your siblings, I promise," I said leaning over to kiss the side of his head

"I won't let anyone hurt you or your siblings, I promise," I said leaning over to kiss the side of his head. He had to lean down for me to reach, he had grown so much since I was away, banished by his own father and my lover.

I got sucked back out of the flashback by Emily running over with two letters in her hand.

"Sultana, as you have asked the doctors, sent their answers from the Sanjak of the princes," she said handing me the first letter. I took it from her hurriedly and opened it.

"Dear Haseki Jawhara sultan

I have examined prince Murad and everyone who is resident under the roof of his palace and thank Allah no one has that horrid sickness. May Allah give our sultan health and strength for him to pass this obstacle.

Doctor Mahmoud"

I said in relief handing the letter back to Emily and taking the other one from her.

"Dear Haseki Jawhara sultan

I have examined prince Mehmed and I have bad news, he sadly has smallpox too and he is in a lot of danger and if he lives through the next couple of days it would be a miracle.

Doctor Omar"

"No" I whispered feeling my body go numb. My Mehmed was also sick. Both of my firstborns were sick and could die any second.

I couldn't hold myself anymore and fell to my knees letting the paper fall down beside me on the floor.

"Sultana!" Emily explained running over to me helping up with the help of another maid who came in with her, her name was Surat, they helped me sit down on the chair before Surat ran to get me water.

"My children are dying right in front of my eyes and I can't do anything about it" I mumbled helplessly burying my face in my hands letting the tear go and fall down on both of my cheeks.
