27: The Distance

Reiyu: Kakashi-san. You seem distracted today.

Kakashi: let's just hurry up with the mission. It took longer than expected.

I want to see Mai. She finally came back.

Reiyu : hai !!

The door knocks and Mai goes to open it " hai? Oh... Reiyu. Is there something you need ? "

Reiyu : can I come in ?

Mai : .... Fine.

Reiyu enters the apartment and took a seat on the couch. Mai goes to the kitchen and opens her fridge " water ? Tea ? Soft drink ? "

Reiyu : it's ok. I'll be quick.

" Oh..." And she comes out from the kitchen " what is it ? "

Reiyu: I love kakashi-san. Could you not interfere ?

Mai: .... Huh ?

Reiyu; I saw, the picture the both of you took. I'm sure both of you are just family like everyone says. Neh?

Mai ; .... Hai.

Reiyu ; glad to know. I'm leaving now.

Her door knocks again in the evening. Kakashi was at her door " you just come back. I was thinking if you want to come over for dinner ? It will be my turn tonight."

Reiyu pops out from behind me " I'll be joining too ! "

Kakashi: she insists. I couldn't do anything about it.

Reiyu ; so mean. I bought all the groceries.

Mai: it's ok. I'll just cook instant noodles. It's nothing much.

Reiyu: that would be so sad. Come on. Have dinner with us. Kakashi-san was excited all about this dinner.

Mai ; um...

Kakashi: omedeto. I heard about your promotion.

Reiyu ; that's right. Omedeto! Mai-san.

Mai : um...

Kakashi: how's the food ?

Mai : um... *Forces a smile* as usual.

Reiyu: I cooked it. Glad you liked it.

Mai picks up her utensils and plate " I'm done. " She goes to the kitchen. Kakashi stands up and picks his plate too.

Reiyu: don't you want more ?

Kakashi: I'm full. You enjoy.

Kakashi : put it there. I'll wash it

Mai: right...

You have someone else to do that kind of thing for you.

Mai: then... I'll go home . Thanks for the dinner.

He grabs onto her wrist as she walked pass him " why are you avoiding me ?"

Mai: huh ? I'm not.  It's just late... Tired. I'm going home.

Reiyu enters the kitchen " I'm done too!! I'll help wash up before I go back."

Kakashi: no need. Just leave it.
