Obviously Ashton had no clue about what I was truly doing…luckily.
I raced to Admin block where I stopped one of the teachers and quickly explained about Kiren and his whereabouts, leaving out what had actually caused his collapse. The teacher nodded in thanks before rushing for help.
I, on the other hand, was satisfied and set off in determination.
I could feel fear lurking within me but I wouldn’t let it control me, I wouldn’t let it show. I couldn’t. If I did, it would seize me and I would run away like the coward I was.
Meghann was in danger and there had to be something I could do. I mean, I had no plan whatsoever. I was merely planning on finding where she was, showing up unannounced and presenting myself to this dangerous situation. Obviously I hadn’t thought things through…not in the slightest; but I didn’t have time. Meghann was somewhere out there with a psychotic lunatic whom owned, and had full control over, a gun. Not a great mix, really.
“I’d hand myself over to him before he got the chance to hurt you again.”
“I’d hand myself over to him before he got the chance to hurt you again.”
“I’d hand myself over to him before he got the chance to hurt you again.”
Again, Meghanns words crept up on me and consumed my thoughts as my legs ran frantically to where I had hoped to find Meghann (preferably undamaged).
The shed haunted me after what happened with Meghanns step father last time. But I had to go there. If they were to be anywhere, they would be here.
As I approached it, I watched from the distance; things didn’t seem right. Nobody was around…it all seemed empty, maybe even a little too empty, vacant and deserted.
With a deep breath I placed my ear on the door and sucked in a deep breath, waiting in anticipation. But no sounds game; not even the slightest. But for all I knew, Meghann could be in there, sound didn’t necessarily have to be a deciding factor.
I opened the door carefully and slowly, mentally bracing myself as I did.
Darkness.
Emptiness.
Lack of human presence.
No Meghann.
I almost fell down with disappointment and fear. But I didn’t; the most I could do was inhale deeply, placing all my emotions to the back of my head.
Then I turned, attempting to retreat but was met with a horrendous sight.
‘Hello, Avery, my dear. I thought I would find you here.’ he spoke a little too happily.
Meghann’s stepfather.
‘What have you done with her? Where is she?’ I tried to keep my voice as even as I could. I held a straight face and stood tall, not wanting to seem weak and let my fear prevail.
He let out a joyful chuckle as he smiled, letting his smile reach his eyes. Small wrinkles appeared below his eyes and around his mouth, showing his aging.
I took in his image for the first time since being confronted by him.
Meghann’s stepfather seemed to be in his forties; he had almost raven hair that was bolding and you were able to see the many greying hairs around his roots. His eyes were empty and robotic almost and his build was one that I would rather have wanted to stay clear of.
‘What have I done with her? How humorous that you believe I did anything at all.’ He answered in code.
‘What…? Stop messing with me, old man. If you hurt her, if you k-killed her-‘ I tried to get out before I was stopped by the raising of his hand.
