Chapter 22
Calm Before the Storm-If only he knew
Kiren Jones’ POV
I heard a few words, here and there.
I kept awaking before getting pulled into unconsciousness once again. Only bits and pieces of reality hit me. For a second, I could hear the nurse’s voice, in the next, it was gone and I was surrounded in silence once again.
I wasn’t sure what was real anymore and what my hallucinations were. How could I tell this was my body? There was no real way.
**
In the time in which I was unconscious –or what I thought to be unconsciousness-; various dreams and nightmares came before me. I thrashed vigorously without knowing it. I was completely unaware of everyone as well as my surroundings.
I could have been in the pits of hell without knowing it.
I could have been in the skies of heaven without knowing it.
I could have been on God’s left side without knowing it.
Time escaped from beneath me until I finally realized it was time to wake up. I didn’t know how i knew this or why, but suddenly I could see the world in new eyes. I could feel again. And, I guess, that’s how I knew.
At first, I thought I was blind and deaf. But then the disoriented images cleared and I began to hear various beeping. Then… I was me, again. I was whole. I was Kiren.
There was no one there.
As I expected.
Because, who would worry about stupid old Kiren? I was nothing if not insignificant; especially if I was compared to someone like Avery. Everyone loved her. She was the most amazing person I’ve ever met. Obviously no one cared about me. I had come to facts about that a long time ago.
‘Kiren Jones?’ asked a startled voice. A nurse then walked in looking quite astonished as her eyes fell on me.
‘You’re awake; I’m glad.’ she said, trying to regain her professionalism.
The nurse was tall and had red hair. Her skin was pale with only a light coverage of freckles. She was very thin and quite frankly, gorgeous.
I nodded awkwardly.
‘How long ago did you regain consciousness?’ she asked, grabbing the clipboard at the end of my bed and scribbling away while the question was left floating around.
‘Um…not long ago. Five minutes?’ I guessed in the hopes I was correct.
‘Okay, great. How are you feeling?’
‘Alright, I guess. What happened?’ but before she could answer my question, Cole walked in, stopping as soon as our eyes locked.
‘Kiren…’ he trailed.
I attempted to smile.
‘How…why… you’re okay.’ He whispered.
‘Um, yeah, I guess I am.’ I shrugged with a smirk.
The nurse nodded at Cole before turning back to me and speaking, blocking Cole for any further conversation.
‘Well, Mr Jones, you had a seizer and then hit your head. You’ve been knocked out for about a week. Now, I’ve been informed about your condition. I’m sorry to hear about it. It seems that the tumour is getting worse. Have you discussed Chemotherapy yet?’
