Chapter 14

With good, comes bad- ‘Déjà vu.’ I smirked.

Friday, last day of school. I thought happily.

The camp was on Monday and people were on high because of it.

But I still hadn’t packed…

For some reason, Mr Ford had been in my mind since we were at the hospital and it was frustrating me. We had been keeping our distance, but I think that the feelings were neutral between us. Whenever we saw each other, it was always an awkward smile being shared between us, a weak greeting or a nod.

Counselling was cancelled yesterday because Naomi was needed elsewhere.

‘So, where do the two of you stand now?’ Meghann asked as we were on our way towards music.

The question took me back. I hadn’t really thought about it.

‘I…I don’t know.’ I said honestly as I furrowed my eyebrows together.

‘Oh, well, when’s the last time you properly talked to each other?’

‘…at the hospital. You went to get Kiren some food and the both of us went to get a coffee.’ I said.

‘Well what did you two talk about?’ Meghann asked curiously.

‘Kiren, and then it turned out about him saying how it was his fault…he was the teacher, blah, blah.’

‘Oh.’ Is all she said.

There was silence until we walked into the classroom and realized that we were the only ones there because we were early.

Cole Ford’s POV

As I neared my classroom, I began to hear talking from inside.

I hesitated at the door as I heard that all too familiar voice.

And then I accidently caught their words.

‘It’s not that awkward, I mean yeah, it’s not how it used to be but a lot has happened. I think ever since we talked a bit at the hospital, it’s a bit less tense.’ Avery said.

‘Do you…still….’ What I assumed to be Meghann trailed.

‘It’s OK; you don’t have to answer that.’ Meghann said.

‘I don’t know. I guess I will always love him, no matter what but things have changed and it’s not as simple anymore.’ Avery said as my heart skipped a beat.

‘Do you think there’s hope for the future between the two of you?’ Meghann asked.

‘I really don’t know…things are complicated.’

Yes, Complicated.

And that’s when I chose to walk in.

‘M-morning ladies.’ I said as I tried to keep my voice under control.

‘Morning sir.’ they both muttered under their breaths awkwardly as I reached my desk and looked up at them.

Avery turned a light shade of pink before looking away.

‘We were just talking about you, sir.’ Meghann said, brightening up her mood.

Avery looked horrified ‘MEGHANN!’ she said harshly under her breath.

‘Oh yeah? About what?’ I said, trying to sound casual and the least bit anxious as I sat up on top of my desk.

‘Nothing much.’ Avery tried to interject before Meghann could say more.
