Chapter 16

When the truth unfurls- ‘Avery.’ She whispered.

As much times as Meghann and I had convinced ourselves we weren’t going to get wet at the beach, we did.

Kiren and Ashton (to whom we were starting to like greater and let loose in front of him more) pulled us in; and after many frustration, we laughed it off.

It was now Tuesday and we were all gathering in the Hotel Lobby, about to part for our first trip to Luna Park.

I had brought a small, Lonsdale back-pack which had my very heavy wallet and other essential things.

I wore denim mini-shorts and a white singlet-shirt as well as my bright pink Converse Chucks.

The air outside was extremely hot, hence why everyone was wearing minimum clothing. Everybody chatted eagerly amongst themselves as the teachers tried to call for everybody’s attention.

‘This is going to be an awesome day.’ Meghann whispered to me as everybody went relatively silent.

‘It is.’ I agreed, but little did I know how todays events would play out and how they would change everything.

‘BRB, going toilet.’ I said to Meghann before I walked off, knowing we weren’t leaving for another couple of minutes at least as Mr Parker was still addressing the year.

‘Excuse me; know where the nearest bathroom is?’ I asked to a man with his back towards me.

He turned around and I suddenly blushed. It was Mr Ford.

He smirked ‘Ah, Ms Blake. Must you go now? We will be leaving shortly.’

‘I-I really have to.’ I said, trying deeply to hold it in.

He then chuckled ‘Of course, of course. It’s down the hall, second on the left.’ He said.

‘Th-thanks.’ I said.

‘Glad to be of assistance.’ He smirked again before turning back to his momentary position.

‘Right.’ I muttered before eagerly following is directions.

Once we were all off of the ferry, the teachers gathered us around them to issue us the rules and regulations of the day’s outing.

‘OK, gather around…silence please. Today –as you all know –we will be spending the day at Luna Park; Australia’s great amusement park. The time is-‘Mr Ford checked his watch ‘-10:30, which means you have until 4o’clock before we will meet up outside the amusement park and depart. I hope you all have your money as rides are not free. But seeing as entry is free, you may go ahead. Just keep in mind, do not wonder far and please stay in a group at all times. To the left you will be able to buy a limited-rides wrist band. Keep safe.’ Mr Ford said as he dismissed us before turning towards Mr Parker. I looked to Ms Fletcher and she looked rather lonely. I did feel a ping of sympathy towards her but it was gone in an instant.

‘Avery, come on!’ shouted Meghann as she gripped my upper-arm and the two of us, plus Kiren and Ashton, were off.

After purchasing a wrist-band each, we stood motionless as our surroundings were overwhelming.

People were scurrying back and forth; children were screaming for joy, little babies cried, parents were nagging their kids while they were pestering their parents for more time on the rides.

I looked over at Meghann and realized we were both smiling at each other. ‘Well come on!’ Kiren said eagerly as he walked ahead of us, head moving left to right, trying to observe everything at once.
