Katherine

I woke up one morning dizzy and nauseous. I spent the night crying and cuddling with Brian. He gave me a head massage and rubbed my back until I fell asleep which was like an hour ago. He was dead beside me, on his back, neck positioned weirdly. I stood from the bed, rubbed my eyes and fixed his neck so he wouldn't wake up in pain. I didn't hear the girls moving around yet. I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and as soon as I started the water, vomit pushed up. I ducked over the toilet and released the vile. It came out like hell fire. By the time I was finished, I had tears running down my cheek and a runny nose. Holy fucking hell.

I successfully brushed my teeth and showered and when I came out, the girls were in their room, playing with Barbies.

"Loves, you didn't even eat breakfast yet and you're playing with Barbies?" I used to get scolded for that as a child because it was always about the mission and I was about to tell them to put down the toys but I stopped myself.

They're children. There will be no mission for them. There will be no lessons on combat for my children.

"Come when Mommy calls you for breakfast." I told them with a smile, signing every word.

They nodded softly and went back to playing. I left their door open and as I was walking out, Brooke ran to me.

"Daddy?" She asked, looking down the hall.

"Daddy's tired. Let Daddy sleep."

"Daddy not tired." Brooke shook her head.

"Daddy is very tired."

"Show me." She crossed her arms.

That is my child one hundred and three percent.

"Later." I walked out and went downstairs.

I made blueberry pancakes for them and I made Brian and me french toast. By the time I was ready to call the girls, Brian was heading down, in his pajamas.

"Morning." He rubbed his eyes.

"You okay?" I asked him. "BROOKE, RUBY, QUINN!"

He winced. "Why are you shouting?"

"Breakfast."

I heard their footsteps beating down the stairs. And I kid you not, as Ruby and Quinn made it to the bottom, Brooke decided to roll down the steps. Brian ran to her immediately.

"Why would you do that?" He picked her up and checked her.

"NASTICS!" She beamed at him.

"That's not gymnastics, darling. That's foolery." I informed her as I set her sister's up at the table.

"NASTICS!" She shouted again.

"Okay. Jesus. You hurt?"

Brooke shook her head and wrapped her arms around Brian's neck.

"NASTICS!"

"Nastics. We get it." He kissed her cheek and set her down.

He turned back to me. "I'm going to go driving with Dom for a while. You cool with that?"

"Yeah. I was going to the park with the girls, they need to get out more."

"No park!" Brooke began to whine. "NASTICS!"

"Oh Lord." Brian rubbed his face.

"You can teach your sister's nastics at the park." I negotiated.

Brooke nodded and clapped.

"Have fun driving and doing manly things." I told Brian.

I felt nauseous.

"I will. When I get home, let's be disgusting and watch a movie and cuddle." He smiled.

"Ugh. Just the words almost made me puke." I played along.

"I know. We never stoop so low." He wiped his mouth with a napkin. "That's only for real couples."

"Which we aren't." I looked at him.

He laughed and shook his head.

"Brian, you're a jackass." I bursted out laughing.

Brian threw his head back and laughed. My nausea got worse but I ignored it. I'll puke when he leaves.

We finished breakfast and as I got the girls ready for the day, he cleaned. As soon as I got my last child all set, I couldn't push it down any longer. I ran to their bathroom and puked violently. My stomach was flipping and my eyes were oozing tears. The girls rushed in. They were confused. I made sure I finished before turning to them.

"Mommy's okay." I reassured them, rinsing my mouth. "Mommy sick."
