Friends Don't

Hi everyone, so as I promised Harley is definitely going to be a character that I want to use in my writing more, hopefully, we get more on him in endgame, but yeah so here's one of many to come, hope you enjoy!

Third Person POV

They met through tony and became friends never expecting to be anything more, I mean who would. As time went on things changed at first all it was, was that they caught themselves staring for a bit too long and from then it only progressed

They don't cancel other plans, have conversations with nothing but their eyes

If one called the other they'd drop whatever they were doing just to answer, just with a look they could tell exactly what the other one was saying they don't know when because they never really noticed till now 

They don't hear each other's names and forget to concentrate, Hits a nerve and lights you up like dynamite

Harley forgets everything that's going on if he hears peters name, he hates that he can't stop the butterflies and giddiness that makes him feel all warm and fuzzy inside

Friends don't call you in the middle of the night Couldn't even tell you why They just felt like saying "hi"

Harley will call Peter at 3 in the morning unable to sleep, he couldn't tell you why but he just found this comfort in hearing his voice. Peter couldn't find it in himself to ask Harley to stop calling because he never gets more than a few hours sleep, not when Harley has started to smile brighter since

Friends don't stand around, playing with their keys finding reasons not to leave trying to hide the chemistry

When movie nights come round Harley often likes to invade Peters small dingy apartment with bags of popcorn staying up into the early hours of the morning trying to make excuses to stay and even though Peter worked it out long ago he never called him out on his horrible attempts at excuses

Get a little too close we do, but friends don't

they slowly inch closer and closer until their legs are touching, every time they sit near each other peter pretends not to notice Harley getting closer

They don't almost say "I love you" when they're downtown somewhere, just a little drunk

It was at Tony's annual new years eve party, of course, Harley being the idiot he is, went and got himself drunk leaving Peter in charge of babysitting his drunk ass as Tony was chatting with some of the newly reconciled avengers so of course, he didn't want to interrupt and mess that up. He had just managed to get Harley onto their private floor and onto the lounge before he looked at Peter with a dopey smile adorned on his face and muttered "I love yo-" before he started vomiting into the bucket Peter had retrieved earlier, Peter sat rubbing his back trying to blink back the tears knowing that it was false hope ignoring the ache it left in his chest

They don't talk about the future and put each other in it and get chills with every accidental touch

When asked about the future Harley couldn't really tell you, he'll probably take over as ironman but for some reason, Peter is always there no matter the scenario it's just subconscious that  Peter is always there in some shape or form. Harley couldn't explain the tingles he felt go through his skin every time he and Pete accidentally touched from handing each other stuff to accidentally walking into each other in the hallway

Harley spent months trying to deny his feelings for Peter, he didn't know how to do this how do you tell a guy you like them if you don't even know if they like guys. (Little did he know that Peter would be performing to come out at graduation in a chapter to come)When he looked into Peter's eyes that night that he came to him because of a nightmare, he knew that he had to feel something to

Peter confronted Harley only a few days later watching in amusement as he stuttered trying and failing to come up with an excuse, Peter just laughed confusing Harley 'isn't he supposed to be disgusted that I even think that' Pete moved towards Harley he put his mouth near Harley's ear and whispered "I love you too" and placed a gentle kiss on Harley's lips before walking off towards the gym where he was going originally with a smirk permanently on his lips 

they may have been friends but they are much more now, whether they want to admit it or not they have always acted more like lovers than best friends. Harley couldn't be happier with what had transpired only hours ago he felt so giddy. Harley fell into a happy sleep that night

Only hours later he's woken to the sound of Peter's screams echoing through the hallways, he shot up and raced towards Pete's room. He entered to see Peter thrashing around in a cold sweat, he walked over and shook him awake and he jumped out of the way just in time for peter to blindly through his fist. Once he got a grip on reality he kept apologizing for waking him up, Peter ended up staying in Harley's room for the rest of the night and may have eventually permanently moved into there

They became more important to each other every day especially with the rogue avengers being moved to the compound after trying to attack tony when he said he was no longer in charge of the costs for the damage they cause, that was a fun afternoon

Friends don't, but we do

The one that set them apart is that they love each other in a way that friends don't
