"Hey stop that. And don't talk to me that way" I say slapping her hands away

"Now eat your pancakes school is starting soon"

"I don't want to go I'm scared"

"Mommy well old mommy is my teacher duh"

Rae's lip starts quivering and she starts to cry

"Baby don't cry" I say pulling her into a hug

"B-but she's my teacher"

She continues to cry and Kayleigh comes up to our table

"Is she okay" she mouths to me

"No scared for school" I mouth back

I nod and she taps Rae on the shoulder

"I heard you're scared for school? Is today your first day?"

"Ye-yes it is. I-I've never been to school before"

"Well first days are always scary. But they are also very fun. You meet new friends, learn new things, it's amazing. Guess what?"

"YOU GET RECESS!!!!"

"After lunch you go outside and get to play for a loooong time"

I take out my wallet and hand her a 20 dollar bill

Rae runs to the exit and I turn towards Kayleigh

"Thank you so much I didn't think she'd ever want to go. I've never seen her so excited to go well anywhere before"

"No problem. Here's my number text me about how her day was I really want to know if she likes it I kinda talked it up a bit" she says handing me her phone number
