*Shawn's POV*

I looked around the set, seeing people everywhere. We had been filming and working on the music video for my song Lost in Japan for almost a week. One of the only things left to film was a part where I would have to dance with dancers behind me for a few seconds. And I was a bit nervous about my lack of dancing skills. I really did not want to mess up or trip and fall on my face.

"Alright, Shawn. You ready?" the director said, coming up to me.

"Yeah," I replied, "Let's do this." We had already practiced the part enough so that I knew what we would be doing. I stood up and walked over to the real set, seeing all of the dancers they had hired. Most of them were fixing their hair or makeup over and over again, but one girl caught my eye. She stood by herself practicing. I must have been watching her more than I thought because she smiled at me before taking a bow as a joke. I smiled back.

"Okay, everyone in your positions," the director spoke, standing behind the camera.

I looked away from the girl and stepped over to where I was supposed to be, in front of everyone else. I tried not to tap my foot out of nerves.

"And three...two...one..." The music started playing and I started doing the first moves the best I could. But, I found out that I kept forgetting what came next. Eventually, I could tell that I was behind everyone else.

"Cut," the director called and walked over to me, "Okay, Shawn, something isn't working here. Do you need more time to practice or maybe someone can go over it with you?"

"I-I don't know," I stuttered.

"I can help him," a voice behind me spoke up. I turned around to see that it was the girl I had noticed before.

"Are you sure?" I asked, "You don't have to if you don't want to."

She waved it off with a grin, "It's no problem. I'd love to help you."

I looked over at the director. "Okay," he sighed, then spoke to the whole crowd, "Let's go for our lunch break now. GIve Shawn some time to practice." Everyone listened and made their way out of the room.

"So," the girl started, "My name's Y/n." She held out her hand.

"I'm Shawn. Obviously," I said, shaking her hand. That was stupid, I thought to myself, Why am I so awkward?

Y/n seemed totally calm and normal though. "How about I play the music and you can try to do it again?" she suggested, "Just so I know how I can make it better."

"Okay," I agreed. My heart was racing at the thought of dancing for only one person. And that one person was a beautiful girl...

I had called her beautiful in my head without even thinking about it. Maybe there was another reason why I was nervous. I took a deep breath and tried to push down my nervousness.

Y/n hit the play button on the music and I tried again. But, it still felt like I was doing it wrong. Even I could tell I wasn't going with the beat. After pretty much completely embarrassing myself, I soon stopped.

"That was actually a little bit better," Y/n smiled and came over to me.

"Really?" I asked. "Yeah," she added, "There's just a couple of things you could work on." I nodded, making eye contact as she spoke. "One of the things is making sure that you're counting in your head, just like you would do if you're playing an instrument. Which I'm sure you get," she instructed, "And another is thinking of the next move before you do it. That should help you if you forget anything."

"That sounds like a good idea," I told, "Thank you so much for helping me."

"You're welcome," she said, "I know you'll do better at the dance next time. You're actually not that bad of a dancer."

I chuckled, "I don't know about that." But Y/n insisted that I wasn't bad at all.

"Here," she started, "If you ever need more help, I'll give you my number so you can call me." I got out my phone, unlocked it, and handed it to her. For some reason, I wasn't at all worried that she would do something bad with my phone. She seemed too sweet to do that, which I liked.

Y/n handed my phone back to me before it was time to start filming again. And the next time we tried, I nailed it with the help of Y/n's advice.

~

Two days later, I sat staring down at my phone screen, it open to my contacts. I stared at Y/n's number before clicking on it to text her. I started typing different things, but I kept deleting it. I didn't know what I wanted to say, I just had to see her again. I missed her even though I barely knew her. And every time I was about to hit send, I got that same nervous feeling I did when I saw her last.

I finally settled on something simple.

Shawn: Hey, it's Shawn. Shawn Mendes.

Y/n: Hi. I'm going to guess you're not in urgent need of dance advice.

Shawn: You're right. I was just wondering if we could maybe meet up today? I mean if you're not busy of course.

Y/n: Do you mean something like a date?

Shawn: No.
Or yes...?

Y/n: Shawn Mendes you are the worst liar. But, of course I'll go.

And hitting send on that first message was one of the best decisions I ever made.

I hope this was good! I have a lot of requests right now which is great. I'm going to try and update twice tomorrow, but we'll see how that goes😊
