The Point of No Return {sequel to The Arbitrary life of Avery Blake [teacher]}29

Start from the beginning

‘Avery, no,’ I faintly heard Meghann whisper and she shut her eyes tight and slightly shook her head.

‘But,’ I said quickly before he could inject. ‘What I don’t get is how you got out of jail. Did you blackmail the guards or something because there is no way they would let a psychopath like you out into the world.’

Instead of taking my insult to heart, I looked up and realised he was chuckling.

‘I see Meghann hasn’t been very informative and has deceived you. Oh, Avery, I apologise for my daughter’s lies. I’m not sure what she has told you exactly but jail? No, I’ve never been near that place.’

I noticed that Meghann was avoiding my gaze as she was looking anywhere but at me.

‘So, you’re saying…the police never caught you, after…after murdering your wife?’ I asked in bewilderment.

‘Exactly that, my dear. Now, if you don’t mind me asking, what exactly did Meghann tell you?’

‘She, she told me just that, after coming home from camp, she found you holding a knife over your dead wife’s body. And then you, you saw her and she had tried to escape and in your efforts to stop her, your knife left a mark on her back. Afterwards…she went to the police and they caught you, that’s when she moved down to Sydney.’ I said, sounding dubious.

‘Close…but no. After trying to escape, yes, I do believe I attempted to stab her as she was trying to get away, in my struggle to get her to stay; after all, I couldn’t have my lovely stepdaughter parading around knowing what she knew. But of course, she got away. I thought she was going to go to the police but after finding out she left the state, I was bewildered. As soon as I found out where she was, I came and here I am. Now the reason as to why I’m here is to end it all; tie up loose ends as one could say. Starting with Meghann. Now, say that you were telling the truth that the only people to whom know about those certain events were in this room, this would go a lot smoother for me. But how could I possibly believe you, Meghann? You did lie to your (I’m guessing) best friend, what’s not stopping you from lying to your beloved stepfather?’

Meghann was silent for a second before she spoke.

‘Let me ask you this question, beloved stepfather. Who.Would.I.Tell? I have no one. If anyone from Queensland knew about those events, don’t you think you would know about it by now? And as for Sydney, i didn’t want to bring my past down here, and plus I was afraid you were going to find me, which, you did. Avery was the only person that gave me a reason to confide in her. And she never told a soul, she wouldn’t.  So you may as well get your stick out of your ass and get whatever you’re planning on doing, done. Make it as quick and painless as possible, thank you.’

I was shocked at how confronting Meghann was. It was as though all fear left her, she was in the moment and her mood was one ready for anything. I could tell she knew she wasn’t going to survive today, I couldn’t blame her. But it hurt that she had no faith in me. But of course, I had barely any faith in myself either.

Who knew after surviving so much, this was how it was all going to end. I didn’t mind though, I was with one of my best friends.

‘You have a point, Meghann,’ he began, sighing before taking a seat on a nearby chair. ‘But nonetheless, you must know how this is to end. I can’t have two little teenage girls running around everywhere, knowing what they do. But you were a horrible daughter anyway, Meghann. And as for you, Avery, I’m sure you’ve lived a pretty fulfilled life, experiencing what you did. You know, that boy that did those things to you…genius he was. I’m almost sad that his time here was short. Great things he could have achieved. Anyway, I’m rambling; I left my “tools” in the car. Plus, I have to arrange a few…things. I’ll be back before the light fades. Don’t do anything stupid.’ He spat finally before making his exit.

As soon as he left, Meghann and I slumped onto the ground in momentary relief.

‘I’m so sorry, Avery. I didn’t mean to lie to you I just didn’t want you to worry! Do you hate me?’ Meghann asked with a pleading look.

I gave her a weak smile as I watched her face slightly relax.

‘I don’t hate you the slightest. And please don’t blame yourself for the two of us being where we are right now. It wasn’t your fault. I got myself involved.’ I reassured her.

‘But we’re going to d-die.’ Meghann’s lips quivered.

‘Oh, no we’re not,’ I chuckled. ‘Here what we’re going to do.’

LetMeThink0-

Well, pretty crappy chapter. Didn’t really like it but hey, what can you do?

I hope you guys like it though…

Really unsure about it.

Ermm… Hey, at least it’s up, right? No more waiting a month.

I’ll try to start the next one as soon as I can. Holidays are coming up so I hope I can fit some more writing into it.

I don’t think the next one will be up until sometime in the holidays as I have a camp next week and stuff.

Anyway, let me know what you thought about it (nothing too harsh please).

And you know the drill, LIKE/COMMENT/FAN
