Things weren't the same in Hawkins since the November of 1983. Will Byers went missing, was pronounced dead, then found again. Mike Wheeler fell in love with the creepy telekinetic girl from the woods. Joyce Byers hung Christmas lights around her house. Her son Jonathan, along with Steve Harrington and Nancy Wheeler, torched the Christmas lit house. Jim Hopper struck a deal with the "bad men", Jane Ives was gone, and things were back to how they used to be. Normal. Or seemingly.
Joanna "Joe" Harrington, had managed to befriend the nerdiest boys in school after bonding through the underlying disaster in Hawkins. She went from Ms. Popular to the party's thief. She liked the idea of feeling like a dangerous badass, and turns out she was. She proved it with a baseball bat when coming head to head with Dr. Brenner and his goons.
In 1984, things seemed to be turning upside down for the second time, with another new addition to the party. The Zoomer.
