When I was little, I used to spend hours laying on my bed looking up at the ceiling, I would lie there and think, sometimes about random things and sometimes about important things going on in my life. For example, when I was contemplating going away to camp or staying to spend the summer with Clair and Mikey. Or the time I wondered about the monkey they sent to space and what he felt, or she, I didn't really know if the monkey was a boy or girl. The thing I thought about most of the time though, was what it would be like to walk on the roof. I distinctly remember just spending hours, looking at the roof and imagining my self-walking on it as if the world was upside down and that's how it had always been. Stepping a foot over the doorways. Playing fun games with the ceiling fan, trying to jump fast enough, it was all a part of my imaginary world.

Right now, I'm lying on my bed thinking about how my world is upside down, and now I have to learn to walk on the roof. Weird how that became the serious subject. "Kaison, hurry up you're going to be late for your first day of school" Clare yells from the bottom of the stairs.

"Coming" I yell and start heading down. We had spent the first half of Sunday at church and the second half shopping so that I would have clothes. Then on Monday Clare's guy came through with the fake documents so she enrolled me in school and then went to work. I had spent Monday watching TV, which wasn't too bad since I'd missed almost two decades of shows.

"You ready, where's your jacket?" I raise my eyebrows at her. "Don't give me that look, it could get cold later, fall's coming you know" she tells me.

I laugh while shaking my head, and grab my jacket off a hook "you're crazy you know that, right?" She just rolls her eyes in response.

"Just get in the car, K.C. come on we've got to leave!" she yells the last part.

"Coming, coming, don't get your panties in a twist" the little girl says coming into the room, full of attitude today.

"K.C., who taught you that?" Clare looks at her suspiciously, and she tries to hide it, but I can see that she's slightly amused.

"I can't tell you that" she says to her mother, which doesn't make Clare look happy at all.

"Was it someone in this room?" Clare questions, glancing towards me and I look away.

"I can neither confirm nor deny that" K.C takes her back pack off of the hook by the door.

"Well in that case, then I can neither confirm or deny if we're going to the park after school today" Clare tells her smirking.

"It was Kaison" K.C. tells her quickly, pointing at me.

"You play dirty" I look at Clare, and glare jokingly.

"I do, now both of you in the car, come on we're going to be late" we follow her out to the car.

"Where's Chase?" I ask her, just now noticing that he was missing, he had been there for breakfast I swear.

"Sam took him to preschool, apparently being dropped off in the police Cruiser gives him street cred" she tells me as we're backing out of the driveway.

"He's five, how is street cred even a thing to a bunch of five-year old's" I laugh, looking at her questionably.

"I don't know, you should listen to Chase explain it" she shrugs and looks back towards the road as we make our way towards K.C's school.

After we dropped K.C. off we head to the high school. After parking the car and turning it off, Clare turns to me "are you ready?" I nod. "Alright let's go."

She unbuckles but I just sit there "You know I can only count the number of times I've been to school without you on one hand" I tell her.

"I know, but it'll be okay, I promise, besides it's not like I won't be in the same building as you all day." she reaches over and grabs my hand reassuringly.
