phil stood there awkwardly, dan didn't need help unpacking so he sat back down on his bed, watching as he lifted his black suitcase and onto the clean white sheets. he was already scared by dan. he seemed cool and hardcore, confident and everything that phil lacked. dan's appearance was intimidating, black jeans, black leather jacket, black top, dan had brown hair, with red streaks in it. it made phil think of anger, an emotion he didn't like to express.

dan unzipped the suitcase, phil noticing something green but he couldn't see what it was as dan had quickly covered it under some clothes now. dan chucked some clothes out, leaving a layer covering the green item which phil couldn't help but be curious and think what it could be.

phil decided to leave dan for a while, going back to his colouring book, picking up the pencil he dropped and forgot to pick up. phil wanted to listen to music at the moment, in his old bedroom he used to listen to music as he coloured all the time, but dan didn't seem to be someone who had the same music interest as him. phil felt that they would have nothing in common with each other. they were too different. complete opposites.

phil turned round after a while, seeing dan had actually folded all of his clothes now, the green item now nowhere to be seen. dan put his clothes away neatly in the drawer provided for him and closed it. phil watched as he walked over to his desk and noticed a basket lying on top, with beautiful hand-made meringues placed neatly inside, in all of his favourite colours.

he blushed at the thought of what dan would think of the gesture as dan stopped and stared at the basket. although the colours made him want to gg inside, he couldn't help but see the prettiness in them. he shook his head. he couldn't possibly be thinking that these treats look nice. he had made sure that phil was not looking when he hid his secret shame in his cupboard, but now as he turned to see that phil was watching, he prayed he hadn't seen what it was.

"what's this?" dan asked, looking straight in his eyes. they were beautiful soft greeny-blue eyes. he could not tell what colour they were he felt the urge to give them a proper look but resisted from walking towards him just to see what colour his large hopeful eyes were.

“umm.. i made lemon meringues for you, as a welcome present. you know.. kind of like a friend-i mean, i dunno i-i uhh baked them for you."

dan looked at the basket, which was wrapped so beautifully inside that dan knew must have taken a lot of effort. his heard felt warm and fuzzy. no one had ever gone through so much trouble for him before, and he doesn’t even know this guy. dan greatly appreciated the hand-baked treats but he did not know if he could live with someone who was this nice to him. dan had shut off having friends a long time ago, knowing that he could never find someone who truly understood him and dan knew that phil deserved better. not wanting to hurt the precious soul who was currently staring at him, waiting for a response, he turned round with a weak smile.

"thank you."
