I like to think that everything will be better when we grow up, like all our problems will be boarded up and our blemishes will be smeared away. I like to think that heartbreak and loneliness are singularly in the vocabulary of teenagers and children. I like to think that we can grow out of destructive thoughts and anxious feelings.

But what if I'm wrong?

What if I wake up one day and I've grown up but all that has happened is that my eyes are peeled wide open to the world and its hidden scenes?

What if I can't stop thinking about you and my heart still feels torn in places it shouldn't?

What if we fall back into old traps and let their snares entangle our bodies?

What if you're suddenly gone and I never got to tell you the things I didn't say?
