Everyone gathered around a table in the living room "This is how Madam Mortlock summons those from the Land of Mists, down in big town." Gwyneth explained "Come, we must all join hands,"

"I can't take part in this," Dickens proclaimed as he stood up

"Humbug? Come on, open mind," The Doctor told him

"This is precisely the sort of cheap mummery I try to un-mask. Seances? Nothing but luminous tambourines and a squeeze box concealed between the knees. This girl knows nothing,"

"Now, don't antagonize her. I love a happy medium,"

Rose shook her head "I can't believe you just said that,"

The Doctor looked to Dickens "Come on, we might need you." Dickens sat down again "Good man. Now, Gwyneth. Reach out,"

"Speak to us. Are you there? Spirits?" Dickens rolled his eyes "Come. Speak to us that we may relieve your burden," her eyes raised to the ceiling. A murmuring filling the room

"Can you hear that?" Rose asked

"Nothing can happen." Dickens proclaimed "This is sheer folly,"

"Look at her,"

"Doctor..." he turned away from Gwyneth and looked at Tiaalen "I feel them," she whispered

"What're they saying?"

"They can't get through the rift. Gwyneth, it's not controlling you, you're controlling it. Now look deep. Allow them through,"

"I can't!" Gwyneth shouted

"Yes you can. Just believe it. I have faith in you, Gwyneth. Make the link," Gwyneth lowered her head and opened her eyes

"Yes," three gaseous figures appeared behind her. Dickens' mouth dropped open.

"Great God." Sneed exclaimed "Spirits from the other side!"

"The other side of the universe," Tia corrected

"Pity us. Pity the Gelth. There is so little time, help us," The Gelth explained

"What do you want us to do?" The Doctor asked

"The rift. Take the girl to the rift. Make the bridge,"

"What for?" Tiaalen questioned

"We are so very few. The last of our kind. We faced extinction,"

"Why, what happened?"

"Once we had a physical form like you. But then the war came." Both Tia and the Doctor went silent

"War?" Dickens asked "What war?"

"The Time War," The Doctor and Rose glanced at each other, while Tiaalen squeezed his hand for support "The whole universe convulsed. The Time War raged invisible to smaller species but devastating to higher forms. Our bodies wasted away. We're trapped in this gaseous state,"

"So that's why you need the corpses," The Doctor proclaimed

"We want to stand tall. To feel the sunlight. To live again. We need a physical form, and your dead are abandoned. They're going to waste, give them to us!"

"But we can't!" Rose argued

"Why not?" The Doctor asked her

"It's not...I mean, it's not..."

"Not decent? Not polite? It could save their lives," The two stared at each other for a moment

"Open the rift." The Gelth continued "Let the Gelth through. We're dying. Help us. Pity the Gelth!" they disappeared and Gwyneth collapsed forwards onto the table. Rose immediately going to her
