Randy came downstairs where only the boys were awake.

"What's up, man?" Dario asked.

Randy just shrugged.

"Can you get Elijah and feed him for me?" Quinton asked.

Randy nodded, walking down the hall to the room Quinton stayed in.

He entered and Elijah was sat up, staring into space.

"Hi." He mumbled in his small voice, smiling.

"Hey buddy." Randy said, picking him up and kissing his cheek making him giggle.

He walked back to the kitchen and went into the refrigerator to get a small jar of baby food.

He went over to the living room to feed him there.

"Randy what's the matter." Quinton asked, walking in with the guys following behind.

"Nothing."

"Boy..."

"I said nothing."

"Is it Annick? Did she do something?" James asked.

"She didn't do anything."

"Come on, man. Just open up. Whatever it is we'll help you." Dario said.

Randy sighed.

"My dad-my real dad is in California."

Quinton raised his eyebrows while the others just looked confused.

"Wait why don't you want your dad to be in California?" Jeffery asked.

"Because I don't wanna see him..."

"But why? Did y'all get in an argument or something?" Dario asked.

"No Dario. I haven't seen him in nine years."

"Why?"

"Because he left, Dario. Why the fu-why else?"

"Your dad left? Wow I didn't think that happened to white people."Dario chuckled.

"Dario. Shut up, man." Quinton said.

"This is exactly why I didn't wanna talk about it."

"Wait you mean he left, or your parents got a divorce and y'all just refused to see him?" Dario continued.

Randy got up, walking upstairs.

When he came in the room, Annick was in the bathroom washing her face.

He sat on the bed and sighed.

She walked out sitting next to him.

"I um...heard what happened downstairs." She said softly.

"Oh..."

"Randy, just talk to me. I hate seeing you upset."

"Well...I just...I know I promised my mom I'd go but I really don't want to."

"But don't you think you should hear him out?"

"For what? What he did was no mystery. He left."

"Look, I'm not saying just welcome him back into your life like nothing happened."

"What are you saying?"

"Well you can't deny the fact that you want answers. You do want
answers...right?"

"Yes."

"Well I'm saying go and get answers. Why he left, where he went, why'd he come back, stuff like that."
