Chapter 30 Last Chapter + Epilogue

I didnt realize I was trembling until I began to walk away slowly.

As I walked back to the garden I found no beauty at all in the beautiful trees and roses. Everything around me looked so dull.

Three years.

Three years without seeing my family.

I would be able to do it right?

Not see them for three years?

It would be as if I were in vacation around the world for thee years right?

No, I told myself sulky.

Three years was too long! It would be 36 long months before I could see mom again, the fact that I wouldnt be seeing her, or my family, for three years should get me at least one bit happy, I mean, thats what I wanted right? Freedom!

But no, I felt no joy or happiness come, honestly I felt upset.

Very upset!

Disappointed in myself.

I think what upset me more was that I wouldnt be able to say goodbye to Drake. From now on I wouldnt be able to go into my dad's lands without getting attacked.

Well you could always go and visit them with the chemical, my inner voice told me sadly.

Yes, I thought back, but for some reason I doubted dad would like seeing me in his lands with the hidden chemical.

I didnt realize I was already out Maximu's big palace until I saw Asthon waiting for me in the same position I had left him in, I didnt even notice the doors opening for me.

I walked slowly, dragging my feet outside to where Ashton waited for me a couple of feet away.

He snapped his head up and gave me such a wide hopeful smile as he saw me coming out. For some reason this brought so much more sadness in me it almost made my knees buckle!

Once he saw my sad miserable face he frowned and stood up straight.

"Jade?" he asked walking to me as the doors behind me closed.

I couldnt look at him, at his hopeful eyes, I stopped walking and stared down at the ground with embarrassment.

He had been so confident I would be able to pass both of these tests and yet I only passed one! All of those weeks of training were in vain, for nothing! The way Ashton would be so disappointed in me made my heart seem to break a little.

"Jade whats wrong? What happened?" he asked standing in front of me reaching for my face and trying to raise my chin but I wouldnt let him.

"I didnt pass" I whispered so quietly I barely even heard myself.

"What?" he asked trying to lift my chin again.

I kept silent, the knot in my throat not letting me speak, so I just shook my head.

"Jade? What is it?" he asked worriedly trying to make me look at him.

I threw myself at him and hugged him tightly burying my face in his shirt "I didnt pass Ashton!" I repeated, my voice sounding muffled.

"What?" he asked again not hearing me.

I let out a shaky breath and pulled back looking slowly at him, at his tender blue green eyes, the worry in them made me gulp again.

"I didnt....pass" I said softly.

"You didnt pass?" he asked looking confused now.

I shook my head slowly "No, I didnt pass, Maximus tricked me and I felt for it!" I bit my lower lip harder.
