I turned to Meghann and met her expression of confusion.

After class, Mr Ford still hadn’t returned and so I was left as curious as ever. But I also had things to discuss with him; things that we hadn’t previously covered.

I left Meghann with a mission as I walked towards his cabin.

Mr Ford wasn’t there and so I waited by his door.

Cole Ford’s POV

All my thoughts were wiped out of my mind as the only thing I concentrated on- the only thing I could concentrate on was Kiren. I was meant to be his guardian perse; and that spoke for itself.

When I hit the interior of the boy’s dormitory, my feet immediately took me to Kiren’s room where i eagerly banged on the door; waiting to see that he would be alright.

My heart was pounding furiously against my chest as I awaited his response.

‘Come in.’ came a voice from inside.

I opened the door and blindly stepped in, not too sure of what to expect.

‘Kiren?’ I hesitantly asked as I switched on the light.

After my eyes adjusted to the light, I instantly recognised Kiren hunched over on the side of his bed.

I quickly jumped to his side in anxiety and concern.

‘Are you okay…do you need me to take you to the hospital?’ I eagerly asked as desperation took over my voice.

He looked up to me with wide eyes.

‘N-no, I’m fine.’ He said, but I wasn’t convinced the slightest.

‘What’s wrong? Please, tell me Kiren or I won’t be able to help you if I don’t know.’

‘Nothing, I just thought I needed a lie down. Is that too much to ask?’ he sounded strangely defensive. When he looked over at me, his eyes were red rimmed.

‘Shit, Kiren. I’m your guardian, assigned by the school, and aside from that, I’m your friend. I think I have full rights to know, don’t you?’

‘No.’ he said nonchalantly, trying to keep what I thought to be the pain and strain out of his voice.

‘No, what? Are you trying to kill yourself?’

‘Cole, I just need a good night’s sleep and I’ll be fine; you’ll see. I’ll come to school tomorrow and you’ll see.’ He shrugged.

I wasn’t entirely convinced but I let it go, because I could easily monitor his behaviour tomorrow.

I sighed whilst standing up. ‘Okay. But if I don’t see you tomorrow, I’ll be kicking down your door. Do you understand?’

He smiled weakly up at me. ‘I do.’

‘And if you feel any worse, you’ll come and see me, won’t you?’

‘I will.’

And with that, I left.

Avery Blake’s POV

It wasn’t long –maybe five minutes –before I began to hear oncoming footsteps, casually kicking at things in their path.

My body instantly clenched in anticipation. I tried to restrain myself and look as normal and casual as I could.

‘Avery?’ he asked as he finally came within view.

‘Uh…hi.’ I shrugged, in full composure.

‘What are you doing here?’ he asked, sounding a bit flustered and breathless.

But before he could give me time to respond, he picked me up in both arms and planted his lips on mine. I instantly responded to the unexpected surprise as my lips moved in sync with his.

He walked forwards –my backwards –until I was at his door. My legs were firmly griped around his waist as he fidgeted with the handle until his door opened a moment later. Before I realized, I was planted straight onto his bed.

He placed soft kisses down my neck until he whispered, ‘Are you sure?’

I nodded as all my pestering thoughts –that usually told me this was wrong –were gone as his presence, his touch and his kisses were more then I needed to feel breathless and light-headed.

The next actions were amazing until we were both left breathless, tucked up in the blankets.

A tear of happiness rolled down my cheek. I thought we’d never do this again. I thought we’d never be together again. Relief overwhelmed me.
