The Point of No Return {sequel to The Arbitrary life of Avery Blake [teacher]}19

Start from the beginning

I felt protected and as though I could handle anything, even in my fragile state.

‘Have you guys heard anything from…Mr Ford?’ I hesitantly asked, trying to keep all emotion out of my voice. But I had to get the question out there; it had been overwhelming my mind for these past days.

He hadn’t visited but I was sure he had his reasons.

Kimberly was the first to answer, ‘Not much, he’s been keeping quite lately. I guess this has changed him.’

Then Naomi injected, ‘But don’t worry, Avery. He still loves you if that’s what you’re worried about. He’s just sulky that he hasn’t seen you lately. He just didn’t want to attract media or school attention. It was for your own sake.’

I felt a smile creep onto my features at that realization. I actually didn’t think of it in that way.

‘AVERY!’ I heard my name being shouted before two set of torso’s almost knocked me over.

I laughed full-heartedly at the realization of my two best friends.

‘I missed you guys heaps.’ I admitted to Kiren and Meghann.

‘We missed you too. We visited a couple of times but when we did, you were either asleep or there was the media outside your door.’ Meghann said as we finally broke apart.

‘And we had to go to school; we weren’t allowed to skip to see you. We’re sorry.’ Kiren said with a half-smile.

‘It’s okay, seriously.’ I convinced them.

‘Hey Av’s.’ said Ashton as he walked up and joined the friendly gathering, I guess you could call it.

‘Oh, hi Ashton. How you been?’ I asked.

He chuckled, ‘I should be asking you that. But, yeah, I’ve been great.’ He said as he exchanged a long look with Meghann before she blushed and looked away.

Huh? Hmm…

‘Hi Naomi…Ms Fletcher.’ Meghann said, probably wanting to change the subject.

‘It’s Kimberly…if you like.’ Kimberly said as she smiled hopefully.

Then, I could feel the air change as it became a crucial situation; if Meghann would forgive Kimberly or if she would continue holding a grudge.

Then, suddenly Meghann smiled. ‘Alright.’ she said with a shrug, pretending it was nothing when I knew, only I knew, that it meant the world to her.

‘I’m all for friendly hello’s but we really should sign Avery in.’ Naomi admitted.

I nodded, ‘Of course.’

And then the six of us were off towards the administration block.

I noticed a few people outside but not much. I was glad it was sunny as everyone must have been on the oval as I was fairly sure it was lunch break.

‘Oh, hello Ms Blake. Glad to see you.’ Announced Principal Maletos as he saw us enter.

‘Hi, sir.’ I said as I tried to smile at him.

‘And hello entourage.’ He said as he looked over to the five people around me. It was a bit much but I didn’t care. We were definitely making a statement.

‘Hello Jim.’ Naomi said politely but I could hear the iciness in her voice; it was either because of the referral as my “entourage” or the fact that he didn’t seem to care the least about me. But I knew he cared, secretly, or he never would have let Mr Ford stay after he found out about us. I was secretly grateful for that.

‘Jim.’ Kimberly said as she nodded reluctantly.

But as for Principal Maletos, he glared at Kimberly coldly before nodding back.

Wow, was it just me or did the air temperature change?

After I had signed in, Naomi had left me with some kind words and my new timetable. She also reluctantly handed me the work I had missed.

Kimberly had bid me goodbye with a sisterly hug and a promise to see me later.

Afterwards, I had decided to spend the rest of the day with my friends, after school was dismissed, of course.

As far as I knew, nobody had seen me yet. It suited me just fine. But there was tomorrow to think about. And you could say I was afraid.

LetMeThink0:

Sorry it was extra long, i didnt realize until i was on the last page. That may be why the ending seems a bit rushed. But, i hope you enjoyed it nonetheless :D
