When I was finally dismissed and exited the Hospital with Naomi by my side, we walked towards her sleek, business car before I stopped at a nearby electricity poll.
‘Avery?’ Naomi asked in confusion at my sudden halt. I could feel her intense gaze upon me as I was frozen in place. My arm reached out to rip of the poster before bringing it up to my face.
‘What…what is this?’ I asked shakily.
Naomi sighed before reluctantly speaking, ‘A poster.’
‘I can see that…but why?’
‘Avery, you don’t think people didn’t care, did you? Obviously many people were worried about you…some more than others.’
‘But why here? I didn’t get myself lost here.’ I said flatly, ignoring her previous statement.
I beheld the poster in my hand.
On the top wrote “LOST” in big, dark letters. Then under that there was a big picture of me from last year when I was much happier and when the world hadn’t felt like it was crushing down on me. Then, under my half-page picture were some bold words.

Or Cole Ford at [number]
Thank you.
‘He…Mr Ford wanted to be thorough, just in case you found yourself home. He was really afraid for you Avery.’ She said the last part more heavily with more meaning.
But before i could respond, Naomi hurried me into the car before we were off. But what Naomi didn’t know was that I had hurriedly folded the poster and placed it into my pocket before she realized. I wasn’t sure why I did this; I just felt a clinging desire towards it.
We chatted endlessly until, before I knew it, we arrived at school. My heart felt as though it was going to pound itself out of my chest and my stomach felt as though it was doing hundreds of backflips.
Naomi must have sensed my unease as she placed her hand on my shoulder. ‘It’s going to be okay, Avery. No need to worry.’ She said reassuringly, and only she could have convinced me so.
I exhaled an unsteady breath before shakily opening the sleek car door. Naomi met me half way as I stood back and examined the school. Then I realized someone was standing by the school gates.
I walked up to her as she embraced me tightly.
‘You see, this is how things should have been before.’ Naomi announced as she walked up from behind.
‘I know and it’s my entire fault. I shouldn’t have been so selfish. I was just afraid to feel something.’ Kimberly admitted. Her voice sounded soft and innocent as I looked up and met her gaze. She smiled kindly as we broke apart.
‘Thank you guys so much.’ I said proudly.
‘It’s my job.’ Naomi shrugged.
‘Yes, but you know as well as I do that you’ve done more than your job specifies.’
‘Anything for you hun.’ She smiled at me. Her smile was beautiful and fitted her face perfectly.
‘Come on, we better get inside. The sun’s fairly heated from out here.’ Kimberly said as she placed herself at one side of me before Naomi adapted herself to my other side.
