‘I can’t.’ I said.

Her eyebrows scrunched up in confusion, ‘Why not?’ she asked, sounding genuinely concerned.

‘I think I’ve slept too much, to be honest.’ I gave a half smile.

She gave a small chuckle, ‘Of course, you’ve been sleeping a lot, I guess. What do you want to do then?’ Kimberly asked.

‘Do you…do you want to, um, talk?’ I asked as I looked away from her, all the while playing with the corner of my blanket.

‘You…you really want to talk with me?’ her voice seemed hesitant.

‘Of course, Kim; you’re my…sister.’ I looked up to her and realized her eyes were wet with moisture.

‘Oh…okay.’ She said, sounding a little dazed as she sat beside me once again.

And that’s how the next couple of hours were spent.

We laughed, we cried, we hugged a whole lot; but mostly, we just got to know each other more than we could possibly have asked for. But I liked it.

She told me about her life as a child; the ways of her…our… parents and when our father committed suicide. I was kind of glad I wasn’t a part of it but I just felt sorry for Kimberly. I then knew why she had done the things that she did.

When 9 o’clock came around, Kimberly left me as apparently she still had duties at school. But I didn’t mind as I had time to have a shower and get all my things together because frankly, this hospital couldn’t force me to stay here any longer; there was no use. I was fine.

“…but if only Avery really knew the extent of the damage done to her; she may have re-thought her actions…”

When I had the limited amount of my things inside my small backpack; I opened my door but didn’t get a step out before a nurse was in front of me.

‘Where are you going?’ she asked anxiously.

‘Home.’ I said coldly.

‘No, miss, I don’t think you should be doing that. We’ll have to call the police if you do.’ the nurse said reluctantly.

‘But there’s nothing wrong with me, I’ve been awake for like four days.’ I said hardly.

Yeah, it had been four days since I had awoken to Kimberly and then Naomi. Two days ago, the police had stopped by to get my statement. There wasn’t much to tell; I had run away. Then, unfortunately, yesterday some of the media had come into my room, with a nurse’s supervision of course. It was some guy with a camera from channel 7. I had reluctantly answered questions to the best of my ability without giving too much away. But when the questions started drifting to Corbin, the nurse instantly told them to get out.

‘I understand that miss, but it’s not either of our decisions to let you go. And plus, you don’t have a guardian or a teacher to come and get you.’

‘But I’m 18.’

‘And you don’t have your car here.’

‘I can call a taxi.’

‘Okay, what if I say I’ll talk to a doctor and help you sign out, but on one condition; you get someone to pick you up.’

I sighed in defeat before nodding and taking out my cell phone.

After the person of my choice, Naomi, arrived; she had an intense talk with the doctor before he gave in. I heard a few fragments of the chat; things like how she was my counsellor and she would be taking extra care of me; things along that line.
