Chapter 1: My Elite Team - Percy's POV

**10 000 CHAOS YEARS LATER**

'Again!'

My entire elite team groaned as they got up from their various positions of relaxation. I had to admit, I was pushing them pretty hard. Though I expected my elite team to be perfect; fourteen of the very best, handpicked by myself.

'Pair up,' I yelled. My commander voice had really become something to behold over my time on Chaos' planet. 'Different people this time.'

Everyone groaned again and got into position, waiting for my signal.

'Percy!' Beckendorf called across the training room. Yeah, as in Charles Beckendorf; the son of Hephaestus who I'd brought back to be in my army. I grinned.

'Commander Epsilon,' I corrected, still smiling. 'What do you want, Blaster?'

I'd given everyone in my elite team code names. Sometimes Chaos needed us to do something on other planets, so I gave them all codes in an effort to protect their identities. Beckendorf was Blaster, a joke we'd made about his death.

In the years I'd been here, I discovered many of Chaos' powers. One of the first I'd learnt about was his power to read minds. He'd heard my personal comment, 'this is the end', as I left Earth. So he gave me the name Epsilon which meant 'end.'

Beckendorf stopped five feet in front of me and gave a mock bow, 'Silena has just gone up to the infirmary. Zoë accidentally hit her in the arm. So, I haven't got a partner.'

I smiled cheekily and he took a step back. To be honest, I had been waiting for someone to get hurt, 'I guess, you'll just have to be my partner.'

The smile slid of his face. When I first came here with Chaos, he trained me for 3 years on my own. He also granted me the power of Chaos, so I could open portals, create impenetrable walls of energy, teleport and change my size or into any animal I want.

'Its alright,' I told him. Then to the rest of them I yelled, 'Same as last time; attack each other until one of you goes down. No powers, weapons only. That means you too, Leo.'

Leo cursed in Greek. And, yeah, he was Leo Valdez. He'd sacrificed himself at the doors of death, staying behind so they could be closed. It was such a brave thing to do that I decided I wanted him for my army. For obvious reasons, his code was Flames and he tried to fight every battle with his fire ability.

I smiled at him apologetically, 'Sorry, man, but you've gotta learn to use your sword.'

He raised Ignis, the sword he'd made at Chaos' forge, which was better and more high tech than any on earth. It was a short blade made of celestial bronze. Except, the celestial bronze found on Chaos planet was a dark, midnight black colour. So my elite team called it celestial black.

I hefted up my own sword, Current. I was allowed to keep Riptide, my old pen-sword, but only as a keepsake. Here, I had to fight with new weapons. But I named my sword 'Current' to remind of home.

I waited until everyone in the room had raised their own various weapons and then shouted, 'Attack!'

My fight with Beckendorf lasted about 30 seconds. He was no match for me. I ended with my sword point at his throat. Then I sheathed Current and helped him up. We watched the other matches which were not passing as quickly. I should tell you who was in my elite team, so this is the perfect time.

Leo was versing Zoë Nightshade, the huntress who'd died trying to take down her father, Atlas. Her weapon choice was usually a hunting knife or a bow. I called her Huntress, because I told her about the constellation that Artemis had turned her into to honour her.

In the far corner, were Jason and Theseus. Yes, the original. I thought it would be cool if I could bring back real legends to serve in my army. And they were pretty cool to hang out with. In order, I called them Argo and Wisdom.

In the opposite corner, Lee Fletcher and Caster Dionysus battled sword on bow. I'd brought them both back after they'd died in the battle of the Labyrinth. I called Lee Archer. Caster it took a little more time for. In the end, I called him Sugar. He was confused until I told him that my mom used to put caster sugar in cakes. Then he just laughed. (AN: Sorry its lame. Couldn't think of anything!)

I jumped as the fight closest to us ended with Clarisse's sword point under Luke's chin. He just grinned at her. I'd brought Luke back because he deserved a second chance after sacrificing himself to defeat Kronos. I called him Iroas which meant hero in Greek. Clarisse had died in the Giant War. She'd taken down hundreds of monster but it was just too much. I called her Drakon as she'd slayed an enormous drakon in the Titan War single-handed.

There was fight I always enjoyed observing. My namesake, Perseus, fought the Greek heroine Atlanta. As the original Perseus was a son of Zeus and I was a son of Poseidon, I kinda wanted something that crossed over both. I decided to give him the name Storm. I didn't know anything about Atlanta except that she was a brilliant fighter and that she was raised by a bear. She gave herself the name Maiden, which I supposed had meaning for her.

There was only one last fight going on. Bianca di Angelo fought Travis Stoll at the back of the room. I'd brought Bianca back as my way of repaying her for sacrificing herself so we could defeat the Talos statue when I was 14. I called her Angel because that's what her last name meant. Travis, like Clarisse and Leo, died in the Giant War. His brother, Connor, didn't eat for a week after his death. It didn't seem fair to either of them, so I brought him back to serve in the army. I called him Bandit.

There was also Silena Beauregard who I'd brought back as compensation for trying to slay the drakon in the Titan War. We'd forgiven her for being a spy and let her join the army. I called her Pegasus because she was just brilliant with them.

When everyone was done, I gathered them so I could give them some feedback.

'Bandit, keep your arm up when you lunge,' I said, 'Wisdom, concentrate a bit more on guarding your left. Iroas, don't use the feint more than twice in battle or your opponent will figure it out. Other than that, you guys did great.'

'Can we stop now, if we did great?' Jason complained.

I opened my mouth to reply when there was a sudden flash of light. We all turned and knelt in front of Chaos who had just appeared. In the years we'd been here, we'd all come to see him as a kind of dad.

'Father,' I said respectively.

'Rise, Gennaios Squad,' he'd given us the name gennaios because it meant 'brave.'

We all got up and I asked, 'What brings you to the training room, Father.'

He studied us, 'It seems we once again have a mission on another planet. It may be our last mission, if you wish it.'

'Why would it be the last?' I asked, dumbfounded. I rather liked it here on Chaos planet. And from the looks on the others faces, they felt the same.

'Because,' Chaos said, with a heavy sigh. 'The mission is on Earth.'
