‘Oh, good, you found them both.’ Kimberly said, slightly relieved.

‘WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?’ Mr Ford barked harshly as his piercing eyes found Kimberly’s fearful ones.

‘Mr Ford, calm down. We can’t do anything for Avery if we are the ones who aren’t stable. She is going to have to reply on us when the time comes, so don’t screw it up!’ Meghann defended Kimberly for the first time that she could remember. She also had never spoken to a teacher like she was now.

Mr Ford looked as though he was having an internal debate.

‘What happened?’ he asked finally, voice beginning to settle but eyes remaining harshly upon Kimberly.

‘Sh-she heard the fortune teller telling me I was hiding a secret, that it was about a sister. And then I turned around and, and Avery was standing right there and I could tell that she knew. She knew I was her…her sister. That’s when she ran.’

Shock instantly registered on Mr Ford’s features, then confusion before anger. It looked as though his nostrils flared in fury and rage, but before he had time to talk, to yell; Meghann spoke.

‘The problem isn’t that she can’t take care of herself, because she can; it’s the fact that she has had the tendency to cut herself. That’s what I’m more worried about.’

Kimberly, Ashton and Mr Parker gasped in horror.

‘Which way did she go?’ Mr Ford asked, trying to keep his voice steady.

‘That way, but we have got to split up or we’ll never find her. I don’t think she’s going to be out of the park but if she is, that makes our chances of finding her slimmer. Now, Kiren, Ashton, you two can just wonder around looking for her all the while asking people if they’ve seen her.’ Meghann spoke as Kiren and Ashton nodded and walked away. She then continued, ‘Mr Ford, Ms Fletcher, you two can search for her outside of the park…just try not to bite each other’s heads off. This is about Avery, not either one of you.’ Meghann eyed them both sceptically before Mr Cole spoke, ‘Meghann, I’m very glad for your help, but I think I, being the teacher, can take it from here. Now,’ he tried to command before Meghann spoke once again ‘No, she is my best friend and if it wasn’t for me, you wouldn’t even know about any of this. She trusts me and we are going to find her…on my commands. Got it?’ she asked with a piercing look.

Mr Ford was completely shocked with the sudden change in her, but he was sure it was because of her fear for her best friend. He understood, hence why he let her take the lead and let her choice for his partner slide.

Mr Ford nodded.

‘As I was saying, you two will search the whole perimeter of the outside. Now give me your phone,’ she said while taking Mr Ford’s phone and implanting her number in case they found her. ‘Call me if you’ve got a lead or better yet, you’ve found her. Now go, what are you waiting for?’

They both anxiously nodded before scurrying off, keeping some distance between themselves.

‘Meghann, I have one question…why did you pair them up? You know there’s going to be trouble.’ Mr Parker said from her right.

She finally turned towards him ‘We’re playing to our strengths. Think about it; if Ms Fletcher really is Avery’s sister, she’s going to be motivated to the max, she’s going to have it in her head that it’s all her fault and if anything happens to Avery, it will be over her head. And Mr Ford, well, you know they’re history. He’s going to want to find her, he’s going to blame himself for this, knowing him, and he’ll find a reason to blame himself. He’s going to regret ever leaving her. These two people will want to find Avery desperately; they’ll forget the hate for each other for her. Understand?’ Meghann asked, showing her first sign of a faint smile.
