‘Just checking that everyone’s OK.’ she said ‘And remember, there are no lollies or sweets allowed. Principals rules, sorry.’

‘We’re fine.’ We both said.

‘OK, be down by four and then we will accompany you to the beach for a few hours. Bye.’ She said before disappearing behind the door.

‘No lollies, my ass.’ Meghann said before pulling out a whole plastic bag out of her carry-on bag, full of skittles, chocolate, Crunchies, Tim Tams, three different chips, a few bottles of coke, just to name a few.

‘Wow Meghann, is there anything for your sanitation or clothing that you actually packed?’ I asked with a smirk.

‘Yeah, s’all packed in my suitcase.’ She winked.

I shook my head with an amused look.

After an hour of chilling and talking, the four of us met up and continued to the Lobby.

‘So, how are you two getting along?’ I asked Kiren and Ashton.

They simply chuckled and shook their heads.

‘…What are we missing?’ Meghann asked curiously.

Ashton cutely snorted ‘We’ve been planning…stuff for tonight.’

‘Stuff like…?’

‘Knock and run, fart bombs, the whole deal.’ Kiren half smiled.

‘Just don’t do any of that to our room, please.’ Meghann said but we both laughed anyway.

‘We won’t.’ Kiren said as Ashton winked.

‘Oh, and I like what both of you are wearing.’ Kiren said.

Meghann was wearing a pink bikini with a multi-coloured cover-up beach shirt. She also wore a floppy-hat and rainbow flip-flops.

And I was wearing a black bikini with a black cover-up dress. I also had pink sunglasses and pink flip-flops.

As for Kiren and Ashton, they wore nothing but board-shorts and flip-flops.

Eventually, enough people gathered that Mr Parker spoke ‘OK, looks like I’ll be taking you down to the beach.’ He smiled.

There were a lot of cheers as everyone excitedly followed Mr Parker, er…Erik.

‘Mr Parker?’ someone asked.

‘It’s Erik.’ He answered with a smirk.

‘Oh…um, Erik; how long do we get to stay down here?’ they asked as we reached the outdoors; sun hitting our faces and bare skin.

‘Long as I feel necessary.’ He winked.

There were more cheers in the crowd as our feet finally hit the sand after many anxious days of impatience.

I wasn’t planning on swimming and I didn’t think Meghann was either.

We decided it best to swim next time.

But as for Kiren and Ashton, they both bolted to the blue/green water.

It looked freezing and their facial expressions and body movements proved us right. But they cheered on none the less.

The two of us erupted in a fit of giggled as we shook our heads and walked on to the rock pool.

I bent down to examine the shallow water and its occupants which consisted of little shells and miniature moving objects.

‘Isn’t it beautiful?’ Meghann asked as she looked out towards the wave of the ocean, the barely visible line between the sea and the sky and the flying of the sea-gulls.

‘Yeah.’ I said but it barely came out more than a whisper.

‘This is my future.’ She said with a hopeful smile.

‘What do you mean?’ I asked as I sat on the closet tall rock.

‘When I leave school, I want to come out here and live in one of those beach houses, always surrounded by the sea, barely disturbed. I’m going to marry a surfer and we’re going to have awesome, outdoorsy kids.’ She smiled with a distant look towards the ocean as she was deep in thought.

I smiled too ‘Really? That would be amazing.’ I agreed.

She then turned to me ‘What are you going to do after we graduate?’

‘Well, haven’t really thought about it.’

‘Well you have to don’t you? We finish in a term, not including the term of the tests we’ve been practicing for since we entered school, the tests that will determine where we go and who we see.’

‘If I had to think about it…I’m not too sure what I’m good at. So, I’ll have to just flow with it.’

‘You know what you would be awesome at?’ Meghann asked.

‘Yeah, what would that be?’

‘Teaching.’ She said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

It took me back, that was for sure.

‘SERIOUSLY?’ I asked a little shocked.

‘Yeah, you would be perfect.’

I actually considered it for a second ‘Teaching what exactly?’

‘I don’t know…haven’t thought about it much. I just always assumed you were going in that path. But I guess…English or History or even Music if you wanted.’

‘History…probably not. Music, I don’t think so, considering I’m only good at guitar. But English…hmm…doesn’t sound too bad.’ I smiled thankfully at Meghann for giving me the idea.

‘But I would have to endure four years of University, wouldn’t i?’ I smirked.

‘It’d still be worth it.’ She smiled.

‘I guess it would.’

‘Anywho “Ms Blake”, I think we should head back to the main part of the beach now.’ Meghann said.

‘Fine.’ I didn’t bother to object as fresh ideas were still sprouting in my mind of all my future possibilities.
