They all entered in their usual social groups and sat down.
All conversations were ended when I stood at the front to address everyone.
‘Class, I’m sure everyone’s sick of all the classical movies you’ve gone through these past couple of days so I’m just giving you free-time. Use your time wisely, whether it is starting your holiday assignments early, free reading or anything. Just keep the noise level to the minimum.’ I smiled kindly as a buzz of chatter began spreading through the room before everyone picked something to do and it started to dull.
Once everyone was settled, I started to walk around and observe what they were doing.
‘Jane Eyre, ae?’ I asked as I stopped in front of Meghann and Avery’s table.
‘Y-yeah. Second time.’ Avery said.
‘The question is, do you like it?’ I asked curiously with a rare smile.
‘Definitely.’ She agreed.
‘Good, we can be friends now.’ I joked.
‘Haha, y-yeah.’ Avery said awkwardly.
(LetMeThink: Soz, the last six lines may not make sense but I promised my friends I was going to add that in because, you know how Ms Fletcher is a real person? Well she said that to me and I felt like gagging. Funniest moment ever though. I don’t even know why she said that, she clearly knows I hate her…)
I walked back to my desk and looked over at the ticking clock on the nearby wall.
I could faintly hear the ticking but it didn’t seem to be moving.
I exhaled as I looked over at Avery. My Sister.
Those two words failed to fully submit in my mind. It didn’t sound right…but I knew it was. I watched as Avery look up from her book and spoke a few words to Meghann before they smiled uncontrollably at each other.
This could ruin everything.
Any and all progress I’ve made with her.
It could change everything. And it would change everything.
But I knew the longer I delayed it, the worse off it was going to get for not just Avery, once I told her, but also me if I kept thinking about it and finding all the possible scenarios or reasons not to tell her.
But the thing was, I knew if I didn’t tell her soon; Naomi was sure to tell her with no remorse.
I would hate if Avery found out from Naomi, and plus, she would most likely hate me more and think me a coward (which I unmistakably was).
But even if I did tell her, she would probably just laugh in my face and tell me to get real or something.
It was a dead-end situation, one I had made for myself.
Avery Blake’s POV
Counselling went by averagely.
Naomi just asked about how I was feeling, questions about the camp and if I felt any better from what had happened.
I answered them all without much difficulty.
I also asked her if there were any breakthroughs with my mysterious family member.
Of course I was going mad not knowing but I hadn’t really thought about it lately because of my latest dramas.
But now, it was overrunning my mind.
‘I promise that I’m doing everything I can.’ Naomi had said.
‘Have you like…talked to that person?’ I had hesitantly asked.
‘I have.’ she said in strain.
‘So you…know this person well?’ I tried to get anything out of her as much as I could.
‘Avery, I know what you’re doing and when it’s time for that person to tell you, she will. Just promise me you’ll go easy on her.’ Naomi had pleaded.
Of course I had no clue at what she was hinting at…none what-so-ever.
So here I was now, with Meghann, packing my suitcases for the trip.
It was taking longer than initially thought because we kept stopping, chatting and laughing.
Finally I had managed to zip up my bag and place the suitcase along with a bag to the corner of my room.
We farewelled each-other before I took a shower, put on my PJ’s and fell asleep even before my head hit the pillow.
My dreams were full of excitement and buzz for the trip and continued on like this for the rest of the night.
When morning came, Meghann was at my door by 9o’clock with an uneasy smile.
‘What’s wrong?’ I hesitantly asked.
‘N-nothing…I was just thinking we should go get some breakfast at the cafeteria or something.’ She said hopefully.
‘Sure.’ I said as I quickly went and fetched my wallet before we walked out of the girls dormitory and walking in awkward silence.
There was happy buzzing throughout the air as teenage girls were giggling and squealing.
I looked nervously around as i had no clue what was going on with the seniors.
‘Have you heard?-‘ a girl in my maths class asked her friends as she approached them running, although it looked as though she was barely touching the ground. ‘-Mr Telco has an unbelievably convenient fever and flu and has gone home for the holidays!’ she said as she fell short of breath. Her friends joined in on the squeals.
I stopped dead in my tracks as I looked over at Meghann ‘What are they talking about?’ I asked as my heart rate had increased to almost double its original speed.
‘I’m sorry A-Avery…I was going to tell you…I just didn’t know how.’ Meghann said awkwardly as she put a hand through her thin blonde hair.
‘Tell me what?’ I asked, almost about to faint as I knew what was to come.
‘Mr Ford…he uhh, he’s coming on the trip.’
And I could have collapsed if Meghann’s hands weren’t there to support me.
