The Point of No Return {sequel to The Arbitrary life of Avery Blake [teacher]}14

Start from the beginning

It looked as though someone had slapped her across the face as she dropped her head and turned around, all the while I stood there in regret.

I had to keep breaking this girls heart, didn’t i?

There was no way in stopping it. Unless…

No, I couldn’t.

I could, but I wouldn’t.

Leaving wasn’t an option…yet.

‘I’m sorry.’ she croaked as she turned back around.

‘No, no, I’m not sorry Avery. We can’t keep compulsively apologizing to each-other like this. Nor can we take back anything we’ve done. As much as I would like to have never met you and saved you from all this, time is set.’ I said weakly.

‘I know, we really shouldn’t keep apologizing every time something like this happens but I can’t help it. I know we shouldn’t be together and when we-I slip up, it makes me feel guilty hence why I try and apologize. And I don’t think you not being here would help…I mean you can’t really consider leaving, can you? I don’t want to be the one who makes you leave everything you have ever felt good about. You’re an awesome teacher and everyone loves you. And without you, I would probably be dead. You’ve saved my life, not only physically but mentally. I don’t know where I would be without you. I want you here; just looking at you is enough for me. I need to know you’re around me, even if we can’t be together.’ She concluded.

Wow.

I was left speechless.

‘Avery, I know you can take care of yourself, I’ve seen it for myself. You are unbelievably strong and even if I’m not here, you will do fine and go on and to be someone extraordinary.’

She blushed at my words.

‘Th-thanks…b-but you’re not really going anywhere, anytime soon, are you?’ she asked.

‘I guess I will just leave that for fate to decide.’ I smiled.

‘But, where do we really stand?’ she asked curiously.

My smile faltered a bit ‘The only place where our true positions lie. Teacher and student.’ I said as I tried to sound confident but I knew she wasn’t fooled, but she nodded mutually anyway.

There was silence held between us by a line of comfort. Yes, it was a comfortable silence, something I missed dearly.

‘I’m, uhh, really late.’ She said.

‘Oh.’ I said as I quickly rushed to my desk and scribbled her a note.

I walked back over to her and handed her the note.

‘Déjà vu.’ I smirked.

Avery smiled kindly. ‘Yeah.’ She whispered.

‘OK, now I’m extremely late.’ she said as she waited for my approval.

‘It’s OK, go. I’m glad we cleared the air.’

She got both notes and walked away, not looking back.

Once she was gone, I tried to hold myself up by my desk as I exhaled.

So many emotions were flickering through me; coming and going before I had anytime to properly react.

Kimberly Fletcher’s POV

My year twelve English class rolled around before I knew it.

I was planning on giving them free-time. I bet they were sick of watching movies all day. I knew I was.

Watching Mean Girls over and over was not fun.
