The Point of No Return {sequel to The Arbitrary life of Avery Blake [teacher]}13

Start from the beginning

‘Kiren, you’ve never stopped being my best friend. I’ll always love you.’ I said.

Kiren’s face brightened up.

‘Love you too Avery, and because of that, you’re going to tell me what’s wrong.’

‘Where should I start? I fell pregnant and I didn’t know whose it was. Then on Saturday I went to the clinic and I found out it wasn’t breathing.’ I said the last part a little loudly so that Cole would hear as I didn’t want to be slack and not tell him at all. It was better than nothing I guess.

Kiren cursed under his breath as he embraced me in a hug as I cried into his shoulder. Yes, cried. I was getting everything out of me as I had been holding it in for a couple of days.

I felt sorry for Mr Ford though as he must have been sitting there, not knowing what to do.

When I finally separated from Kiren, the bell went and I knew students would be pilling in any minute.

I looked up after many procrastinating seconds.

I met Mr Ford’s wide eyes. It looked as though he was shocked, but I didn’t blame him.

I quickly looked away and tried to dry my eyes before everyone’s entrance.

I looked to Kiren and he beheld a contemplating look before he met my eyes and shook it off and smiled.

‘We’ll talk about it after.’ He whispered in my ear before squeezing my hand before everyone finally came in.

Meghann took a look at both of our faces and sat down in this unusual spot at the back of the class ad spoke ‘What did I miss?’ she asked as she exchanged a look with the both of us.

‘We’ll talk later.’ I whispered as Mr Ford made his way to the front.

‘Welcome back Kiren.’ Meghann said as she winked at Kiren before we shared a giggle and looked to the front.

‘OK class, it’s the last week of school so I’ll give you this week and the holidays –taking in account of your camp- to dish up a PowerPoint for an advertisement for your song that you created previously this year. Include people you want to use in it, lines, scenery etc. It has to go for three minutes but by no means does that mean it needs to drag on.’ He concluded as he went and sat on top of his table as he observed the class. His eyes met mine and he mouthed ‘See me recess’ I nodded before getting out a pen and some paper to make a scaffold. Meghann and Kiren did the same as we casually talked while attempting to do the task.

Mr Ford walked around a few times to observe the amount of work we were doing.

When the bell finally went, we walked to our next class.

When recess finally arrived, I excused myself from Meghann and Kiren and walked to music as paranoid as ever.

Mr Ford had his head in his hands as he sat at his desk. He ruffled his hair with his hand irritably before looking up as he must have sensed me.

He jumped up at the sight of me.

We both held eye contact ‘You should have told me.’ He whispered regretfully as he didn’t want to say it but knew he had to. He looked utterly miserable.

‘I was afraid.’ I mumbled truthfully.

I heard him curse under his breath as realization of something crept onto his features.

He looked straight at me with those soft, chocolate brown eyes.

‘I’m being a jerk…’ he whispered as it looked as though he was trying to pull his hair out.
